Abstract
Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and computer systems for intuitively invoking a presentation action (e.g., rendering a menu) by applying a drag-operation at a top-level control button rendered at a touchscreen display are provided. Initially, aspects of a user-initiated input applied at the top-level control button are detected. These aspects may include an actuation location and a distance of a drag-movement therefrom. If a distance of the drag-movement at the touchscreen display is greater than a threshold distance in a particular radial direction from the actuation location, the user-initiated input is considered a drag-operation. Typically, a set of trigger boundaries are constructed based on system metrics to assist in disambiguating the drag-operation from a tap-type operation. If a drag-operation is identified, the presentation action is invoked; otherwise, a principle action associated with the top-level control button (e.g., manipulating content of an application) may be invoked.

1 . A method of providing actions for a control button on a touch interface, comprising:
detecting a touch input applied to the control button on the touch interface; determining a distance associated with the touch input; when the distance associated with the touch input does not exceed a threshold distance, then invoking a first action; and when the distance associated with the user input exceeds the threshold distance, then invoking a second action.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the distance associated with the touch input is determined in response to a removal of the touch input.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the distance associated with the touch input is determined as a function of a first location and a location at which the touch input is removed from the touch interface.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the first location is an initial location of the touch input or a location associated with the control button.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first action comprises a principle action associated with the control button.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the second action comprises a presentation action associated with the principle action.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the presentation action provides one or more selectable options associated with the principle action.
8 . One or more hardware computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed, perform a method of providing actions for a control button on a touch interface, the method comprising:
detecting a touch input applied to the control button on the touch interface; in response to determining that the touch input is removed from the touch interface, determining a distance associated with the touch input; when the distance associated with the touch input does not exceed a threshold distance, then invoking a first action; and when the distance associated with the user input exceeds the threshold distance, then invoking a second action.
9 . The media of claim 8 , wherein the distance associated with the touch input is determined as a function of an initial location of the touch input and a location at which the touch input is removed from the touch interface.
10 . The media of claim 8 , wherein the distance associated with the touch input is determined as a function of a location associated with the control button and a location at which the touch input is removed from the touch interface.
11 . The media of claim 8 , wherein the touch input comprises contact with the touch interface by a finger or a stylus.
12 . The media of claim 8 , wherein the first action comprises a principle action associated with the control button.
13 . The media of claim 12 , wherein the second action comprises a presentation action associated with the principle action.
14 . The media of claim 13 , wherein the presentation action provides one or more selectable options associated with the principle action.
15 . A system for providing functionalities for a control button on a touch interface, comprising:
a touch interface; one or more processing devices that:
detect a touch input applied to the control button on the touch interface;
in response to a determination that that the touch input is removed from the touch interface, determine a distance associated with the touch input;
when the distance associated with the touch input corresponds to a first distance, then invoking a first functionality associated with the control button; and
when the distance associated with the user input corresponds to a second distance, then invoking a second functionality associated with the control button.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the distance associated with the touch input is determined as a function of an initial location of the touch input and a location at which the touch input is removed from the touch interface.
17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the touch input comprises contact between a finger and the touch interface.
18 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the touch input comprises contact between a stylus and the touch interface.
19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the first functionality comprises a principle action associated with the control button.
