Abstract
A locking implant is provided for a long bone. The locking implant comprises a head portion, a stem portion extending from the head portion, and an anchor disposed at an end of the stem portion for engagement within a resected long bone. The anchor defines at least one locking feature, such as a cam, configured to engage an interior of the resected long bone upon rotation of the implant, thereby locking the head portion to the long bone. The implant may comprise a two component modular design. Methods of locking the implant to a long bone structure are also provided.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . (canceled)
2 . An implant for a long bone, the implant comprising:
a head; a stem extending from the head; and a locking feature disposed at an end of the stern, the locking feature radially extending from the stem in a first radial direction, wherein the locking feature engages an interior of a resected long bone upon rotation of the implant to couple the head to the resected long bone.
3 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the locking feature comprises a first locking feature, and the implant further comprises a second locking feature extending in a second radial direction opposite the first radial direction.
4 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the locking feature comprises a plurality of locking features extending radially from the stem.
5 . The implant of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of locking features are equally spaced about the stem.
6 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the locking feature defines a cam surface and, upon rotation of the implant, the cam surface engages the interior of the resected long hone.
7 . The implant of claim 6 , wherein the cam surface comprises teeth.
8 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the locking feature defines a wedge surface and, upon rotation of the implant, the wedge surface engages the interior of the resected long bone.
9 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the locking feature comprises at least one of an extending pin, curved hook, sharpened edge, protrusion, blade, nail, and annular flange.
10 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the head defines an upper articulating surface and a substantially planar lower surface, and the stem orthogonally extends from the substantially planar lower surface.
11 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein at least one of the stem and the locking feature comprises a porous metal or porous metal coating.
12 . The implant of claim 2 , wherein the implant comprises at least one of titanium, a titanium alloy, stainless steel, cobalt-chrome, cobalt-chrome alloy, ceramic, polymer, and combinations thereof.
13 . An assembly comprising:
a head defining at least one retaining feature; a base comprising a first end including a first anchor for engaging an interior of a resected long bone and an opposing second end including a second anchor for coupling with the at least one retaining feature of the head, the first anchor comprising a stem and a locking feature disposed at an end of the stern, the locking feature radially extending from the stem in a first radial direction, wherein the locking feature engages an interior of a resected long bone upon rotation of the assembly to couple the assembly to the resected long bone.
14 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the locking feature comprises a first locking feature, and the implant further comprises a second locking feature extending in a second radial direction opposite the first radial direction.
15 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the locking feature comprises a plurality of locking features extending radially from the stern.
16 . The assembly of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of locking features are equally spaced about the stem,
17 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the locking feature defines a cam surface and, upon rotation of the implant, the cam surface engages the interior of the resected bone.
18 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the second anchor comprises an extending rail or dovetail-shaped flange.
19 . The assembly of claim 13 , further comprising at least one mechanical fastener for removably coupling the base to the head.
20 . The assembly of claim 13 , wherein the base comprises an annular collar disposed between the first and second anchors.
21 . An implant for a long bone, the implant comprising:
a head; a stem extending from the head; and a plurality of locking features disposed at an end of the stem, each of the plurality of locking features radially extending from the stem in a unique radial direction, wherein each of the plurality of locking features engage an interior of a resected long bone upon rotation of the implant to couple the head to the resected long bone.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
