Claims

Abstract

Devices, systems, software and methods for CPR quality assessment. Patient data is received, derived from a session of administering sets of CPR chest compressions to a patient. The sets can be separated by pauses. In some embodiments, a penalty value can be determined for at least one of the pauses, from at least one control factor unrelated to a constant linear dependence on the pause duration. An indicative value can be derived from the penalty value. In some embodiments, at least some of the pauses are classified in one or more pause groups, depending on how well they meet one or more classification criteria. The indicative value can be derived for one of the pause groups. The indicative value can be output, and/or an alarm can be emitted if it exceeds a threshold. CPR quality assessment can be improved in real time, and provide feedback for training.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) feedback, comprising:
 a sensor to detect sets of CPR chest compressions received by a patient, the sets separated by pauses; and   a base device operatively coupled with the sensor, the base device including a processor that causes the base device to:   generate patient data from the sets of CPR chest compressions,   identify at least some of the pauses from the patient data,   prompt a rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions.   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the prompt is determined based on the patient data. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the prompt occurs after a threshold for duration of a commencement of a prior set of CPR chest compressions. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 3 , wherein the threshold is approximately 120 seconds. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the base device includes a user interface that prompts the rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions by emitting an alarm including an audible signal. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the base device includes a user interface that prompts the rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions by illuminating or extinguishing a light. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the base device includes buttons to control the prompt based on rescuer input. 
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the base device includes settings to control the prompt. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the pause is prompted for rhythm assessment. 
     
     
         10 . A method comprising:
 detecting sets of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) chest compressions received by a patient, the sets separated by pauses;   generating patient data from the sets of CPR chest compressions;   identifying at least some of the pauses from the patient data; and   prompting a rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the prompt is determined based on the patient data. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the prompt occurs after a threshold for duration of a prior set of CPR chest compressions. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the threshold is approximately 120 seconds. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein prompting the rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions includes emitting an alarm including an audible signal. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein prompting the rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions includes controlling a light. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the prompt is controlled based on rescuer input. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the prompt is controlled based on settings. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the pause is prompted for rhythm assessment. 
     
     
         19 . A mechanical Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) device comprising:
 a processor configured to:   generate patient data from the sets of CPR chest compressions applied to a patient, the sets separated by pauses;   identify at least some of the pauses from the patient data; and   prompt a rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions.   
     
     
         20 . The mechanical CPR device of  claim 19 , wherein the prompt occurs after a threshold for duration of a prior set of CPR chest compressions. 
     
     
         21 . The mechanical CPR device of  claim 19 , wherein prompting the rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions includes emitting an alarm including an audible signal. 
     
     
         22 . The mechanical CPR device of  claim 19 , wherein prompting the rescuer to pause CPR chest compressions includes generating a visible signal. 
     
     
         23 . The mechanical CPR device of  claim 19 , wherein the mechanical CPR device is configured to provide the CPR chest compressions. 
     
     
         24 . The mechanical CPR device of  claim 23 , wherein the mechanical CPR device is configured to pause the CPR chest compressions based on the prompt. 
     
     
         25 . The mechanical CPR device of  claim 19 , wherein the pause is prompted for rhythm assessment.
