Shading and Protection Awning
Abstract
A shading and protection awning for providing shade in pleasant weather and protection to the structure during inclement weather includes a pair of brackets, a spindle, a rod, a panel and a pair of support arms. Each bracket is L-shaped and configured to attach to a structure. Each of opposing ends of the spindle is rotationally coupled to a respective one of the pair of brackets. The rod is substantially complimentary in length to the spindle. The panel comprises hurricane fabric and has a first edge coupled to the spindle and a second edge coupled to the rod. Each of the arms has a first end pivotally coupled to a respective bracket and a second end rotationally coupled to a respective one of opposing termini of the rod.

1 . A shading and protection awning comprising:
a pair of brackets, each said bracket being L-shaped and configured for attachment to a structure; a spindle, said spindle having opposing ends, each said opposing end being rotationally coupled to a respective one of said pair of brackets; a rod, said rod being substantially complimentary in length to said spindle; a panel, said panel comprising hurricane fabric, said panel having a first edge coupled to said spindle, said panel having a second edge coupled to said rod; a pair of support arms, each said arm comprising:
a first end pivotally coupled to a respective said bracket, and
a second end rotationally coupled to a respective one of opposing termini of said rod; and
wherein the improvements are said panel comprising hurricane fabric, said support arms being pivotally coupled proximate to the structure, and said support arms being rotationally coupled to said rod, such that said panel is configurable to provide shade in pleasant weather and protection to the structure during inclement weather.
2 . The device of claim 1 , further including each said bracket comprising:
a plurality of penetrations positioned in a mount, such that said penetrations are configured to receive couplers suitable for attaching said mount to the structure; a lateral, said lateral being coupled to a side of said mount; a first pivot hole, said first pivot hole being positioned in said lateral proximate to a free end of said lateral; and said opposing ends of said spindle being complimentary to said first pivot holes.
3 . The device of claim 2 , further including said plurality of penetrations comprising four penetrations.
4 . The device of claim 2 , further including said mount being substantially rectangular.
5 . The device of claim 2 , further comprising:
an extension, said extension being coupled to and extending downwardly from said lateral; a second pivot hole, said second pivot hole being positioned in said extension; a pivot pin, said pivot pin being complimentary to said second pivot hole; a third pivot hole, said third pivot hole being positioned in said arm proximate to said first end, said third pivot hole being complimentary to said pivot pin; and wherein said second pivot hole and said third pivot hole can be aligned and said pivot pin inserted to pivotally couple said rod to said bracket.
6 . The device of claim 5 , further comprising:
a first opening, said first opening being positioned in said extension such that said second pivot hole and said first opening are substantially horizontally oriented when said mount is coupled to a vertical surface of the structure; a second opening, said second opening being positioned in said extension such that said second pivot hole and said second opening are substantially vertically oriented when said mount is coupled to a vertical surface of the structure; a locking pin, said locking pin being complimentary to said first opening and said second opening; a lock hole, said lock hole being positioned proximate to said first end of said arm, said lock hole being complimentary to said locking pin; and wherein said lock hole is selectively alignable with said first opening for insertion of said locking pin to secure said arm in a substantially horizontal position and with said second opening for insertion of said locking pin to secure said arm in a substantially vertical position.
7 . The device of claim 1 , further including said spindle being circular when viewed longitudinally.
8 . The device of claim 1 , further including said panel being coupled to said rod adjacent to said second edge defining an overhang.
9 . The device of claim 1 , further including said arms being extendable.
10 . The device of claim 1 , further including each said arm comprising:
a first hinge positioned in said arm proximate to said first end such that said arm is pivotable; a second hinge positioned in said arm proximate to a center of said arm; said second end being reversibly couplable to said respective one of said opposing termini of said rod; and wherein said first hinge and said second hinge are positioned to allow the user to pivot and fold said arm such that said arm is positionable proximate to and in substantial parallelism with said spindle.
11 . The device of claim 1 , further including a plurality of fasteners, said fasteners being coupled to said rod, such that said fasteners are configurable to secure said rod to the structure when said support arms are pivoted downwardly.
13 . The device of claim 12 , further including said plurality of fasteners comprising at least two fasteners.
14 . A shading and protection awning comprising:
a pair of brackets, each said bracket being L-shaped and configured for attachment to a structure, each said bracket comprising:
a plurality of penetrations positioned in a mount, such that said penetrations are configured to receive couplers suitable for attaching said mount to the structure, said plurality of penetrations comprising four penetrations, said mount being substantially rectangular,
a lateral, said lateral being coupled to a side of said mount,
a first pivot hole, said first pivot hole being positioned in said lateral proximate to a free end of said lateral,
an extension, said extension being coupled to and extending downwardly from said lateral,
a second pivot hole, said second pivot hole being positioned in said extension,
a first opening, said first opening being positioned in said extension such that said second pivot hole and said first opening are substantially horizontally oriented when said mount is coupled to a vertical surface of the structure,
a second opening, said second opening being positioned in said extension such that said second pivot hole and said second opening are substantially vertically oriented when said mount is coupled to a vertical surface of the structure;
a pivot pin, said pivot pin being complimentary to said second pivot hole; a locking pin, said locking pin being complimentary to said first opening and said second opening; a spindle, said spindle having opposing ends, each said opposing end being rotationally coupled to a respective one of said pair of brackets, said spindle being circular when viewed longitudinally, said opposing ends being complimentary to said first pivot holes; a rod, said rod being substantially complimentary in length to said spindle; a panel, said panel comprising hurricane fabric, said panel having a first edge coupled to said spindle, said panel having a second edge coupled to said rod, said panel being coupled to said rod adjacent to said second edge defining an overhang; a pair of support arms, said arms being extendable, each said arm comprising:
a first end pivotally coupled to a respective said bracket,
a second end rotationally coupled to a respective one of opposing termini of said rod,
a first hinge positioned in said arm proximate to said first end such that said arm is pivotable,
a second hinge positioned in said arm proximate to a center of said arm,
said second end being reversibly couplable to said respective one of said opposing termini of said rod,
a third pivot hole, said third pivot hole being positioned in said arm proximate to said first end, said third pivot hole being complimentary to said pivot pin, such that said second pivot hole and said third pivot hole can be aligned and said pivot pin inserted to pivotally couple said rod to said bracket,
a lock hole, said lock hole being positioned proximate to said first end of said arm, said lock hole being complimentary to said locking pin, such that said lock hole is selectively alignable with said first opening for insertion of said locking pin to secure said arm in a substantially horizontal position and with said second opening for insertion of said locking pin to secure said arm in a substantially vertical position, and
wherein said first hinge and said second hinge are positioned to allow the user to pivot and fold said arm such that said arm is positionable proximate to and in substantial parallelism with said spindle;
a plurality of fasteners, said fasteners being coupled to said rod, such that said fasteners are configurable to secure said rod to the structure when said support arms are pivoted downwardly, said plurality of fasteners comprising at least two fasteners; and
