System and method of providing wagering opportunities based on gameplay

Abstract

The invention addressing these and other drawbacks relates to systems and methods of selecting and placing real-world wagers responsive to one or more wager triggers, obtaining outcomes of the real-world wagers, facilitating user interactions with various interactive media, and revealing the outcomes of the real-world wagers through the interactive media to give an appearance that the outcomes of the real-world wagers resulted from the user interactions even though the outcomes resulted from the real-world wagers and were determined before the user interactions. The system may provide a wager opportunity based on the occurrence of certain events with interactive media. Upon the occurrence of an event, for example, the user may be provided with an opportunity to place a wager.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A computer implemented method of revealing portions of a user account balance, which is updated based on outcomes of wagers, through an interactive media application, the method being implemented in a computer system having one or more physical processors programmed with computer program instructions that, when executed by the one or more physical processors, program the computer system to perform the method, the method comprising:
 obtaining, by the computer system, an outcome of a wager associated with a user;   updating, by the computer system, a user account balance associated with the user based on the outcome;   receiving, by the computer system, from the interactive media application, a request for a reveal specification via an application programming interface (API), the reveal specification comprising at least a first reveal parameter that specifies an amount of the user account balance to potentially reveal to the user; and   causing, by the computer system, the reveal specification to be transmitted, via a network, to a user device that executes the interactive media application responsive to the request.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , the method further comprising:
 obtaining, by the computer system, an indication of a first user interaction with the interactive media application; and   causing, by the computer system, the wager to be placed on behalf of the user responsive to the indication of the first user interaction with the interactive media application.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the wager is placed through a third-party wagering system via a network. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein an amount of the wager is based on the first user interaction. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the first user interaction is associated with a completion of an objective to be performed by the user, and wherein the user is rewarded with a wager opportunity that triggers the wager based on the completion of the objective. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , the method further comprising:
 identifying, by the computer system, the objective to be performed by the user;   obtaining, by the computer system, a level of completion of the objective based on the first user interaction;   determining, by the computer system, that the level of completion satisfies a minimum level of completion of the objective for providing the wager opportunity; and   responsive to the determination that the level of completion satisfies the minimum level of completion, causing, by the computer system, the wager opportunity to be provided to the user, wherein the wager is caused to be placed on behalf of the user based on the wager opportunity.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the type of wager opportunity is based on a level of completion of the objective. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the user account balance is associated with a first balance representative of a revealed portion of the user account balance and a second balance representative of an unrevealed portion of the user account balance, and wherein updating the user account balance based on the outcome comprises:
 incrementing, by the computer system, the second balance based on a payout of the outcome.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , the method further comprising:
 obtaining, by the computer system, an indication of a second user interaction with the interactive media application, wherein the second user interaction is associated with a user input with at least one physical input; and   causing, by the computer system, information specifying at least the portion of the user account balance to be revealed to the user based on the second user interaction to give the appearance that the user won the revealed portion based on the second user interaction.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , the method further comprising:
 receiving, by the computer system back from the interactive media application, information related to an amount revealed to the user; and   updating, by the computer system, the user account balance based on the information received back from the interactive media application.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the user account balance is associated with a first balance representative of a revealed portion of the user account balance and a second balance representative of an unrevealed portion of the user account balance, and wherein updating the user account balance based on the information received back from the interactive media application comprises:
 decrementing, by the computer system, the second balance based on the amount revealed to the user; and   incrementing, by the computer system, the first balance based on the amount revealed to the user.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the reveal specification comprises at least a second reveal parameter other than the first reveal parameter, the method further comprising:
 selecting, by the computer system, from among a plurality of interactive media applications, the interactive media application to potentially reveal a portion or all of the user account balance based on the second reveal parameter, wherein the second reveal parameter specifies a suitability of a given interactive media application to provide a given reveal.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 1 , the method further comprising:
 obtaining, by the computer system, location information from the user device, wherein the wager is further caused to be placed on behalf of the user based on the location information.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein causing the reveal specification to be transmitted comprises:
 causing, by the computer system, the reveal specification to be provided via the application programming interface (API).   
     
     
         15 . A system of revealing portions of a user account balance, which is updated based on outcomes of wagers, through an interactive media application, the system comprising:
 a computer system comprising one or more processors programmed with computer program instructions that, when executed by the one or more physical processors, program the computer system to:
 obtain an outcome of a wager associated with a user; 
 update a user account balance associated with the user based on the outcome; 
 receive, from the interactive media application, a request for a reveal specification via an application programming interface (API), the reveal specification comprising at least a first reveal parameter that specifies an amount of the user account balance to potentially reveal to the user; and 
 cause the reveal specification to be transmitted, via a network, to a user device that executes the interactive media application responsive to the request. 
   
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the computer system is further programmed to:
 obtain an indication of a first user interaction with the interactive media application; and   cause the wager to be placed on behalf of the user responsive to the indication of the first user interaction with the interactive media application.   
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the wager is placed through a third-party wagering system via a network. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein an amount of the wager is based on the first user interaction. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 16 , wherein the first user interaction is associated with a completion of an objective to be performed by the user, and wherein the user is rewarded with a wager opportunity that triggers the wager based on the completion of the objective. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 19 , wherein the computer system is further programmed to:
 identify the objective to be performed by the user;   obtain a level of completion of the objective based on the first user interaction;   determine that the level of completion satisfies a minimum level of completion of the objective for providing the wager opportunity; and   responsive to the determination that the level of completion satisfies the minimum level of completion, cause the wager opportunity to be provided to the user, wherein the wager is caused to be placed on behalf of the user based on the wager opportunity.   
     
     
         21 . The system of  claim 19 , wherein the type of wager opportunity is based on a level of completion of the objective. 
     
     
         22 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the user account balance is associated with a first balance representative of a revealed portion of the user account balance and a second balance representative of an unrevealed portion of the user account balance, and wherein to update the user account balance based on the outcome, the computer system is further programmed to:
 increment the second balance based on a payout of the outcome.   
     
     
         23 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the computer system is further programmed to:
 obtain an indication of a second user interaction with the interactive media application, wherein the second user interaction is associated with a user input with at least one physical input; and   cause information specifying at least the portion of the user account balance to be revealed to the user based on the second user interaction to give the appearance that the user won the revealed portion based on the second user interaction.   
     
     
         24 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the computer system is further programmed to:
 receive, back from the interactive media application, information related to an amount revealed to the user; and   update the user account balance based on the information received back from the interactive media application.   
     
     
         25 . The system of  claim 24 , wherein the user account balance is associated with a first balance representative of a revealed portion of the user account balance and a second balance representative of an unrevealed portion of the user account balance, and wherein to update the user account balance based on the information received back from the interactive media application, the computer system is further programmed to:
 decrement the second balance based on the amount revealed to the user; and   increment the first balance based on the amount revealed to the user.   
     
     
         26 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the reveal specification comprises at least a second reveal parameter other than the first reveal parameter, and wherein the computer system is further programmed to:
 select, from among a plurality of interactive media applications, the interactive media application to potentially reveal a portion or all of the user account balance based on the second reveal parameter, wherein the second reveal parameter specifies a suitability of a given interactive media application to provide a given reveal.   
     
     
         27 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the computer system is further programmed to:
 obtain location information from the user device, wherein the wager is further caused to be placed on behalf of the user based on the location information.   
     
     
         28 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein to cause the reveal specification to be transmitted, the computer system is further programmed to:
 cause the reveal specification to be provided via the application programming interface (API).
