Administration of search results

Abstract

A web browser displays a set of search results from a web search, each search result indicating a link to a web page. Responsive to selection of a first of the set of search results for exclusion from display, a subset of one or more of the set of search results that indicate related links is identified. The related links comprise links have a same domain name as the link of the first search result. The first search result and the subset of the set of search results are excluded. The search results are displayed without the excluded ones of the set of search results.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for administration of search results, the method comprising:
 displaying a set of search results from a search;   responsive to selection of a first search result of the set of search results,
 identifying a subset of one or more of the set of search results that indicate related links, wherein the related links comprise links having a same domain name as the link of the first search result; 
 excluding all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results; and 
   displaying the first search result and the subset of the set of search results.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining that the related links of the subset of the set of search results match the link of the first search result up to a specified depth in a uniform resource locator (URL) pathway.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein said determining that the related links of the subset of the set of search results match the link of the first search result up to the specified depth in the URL pathway comprises determining that URLs of the links of the subset of the search results match a URL of the link of the first search result up to a number of pathway delimiters in accordance with a number that represents the specified depth. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein said excluding all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results comprises modifying a web page to exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein said modifying the web page comprises modifying a copy of the web page in a cache of a web browser. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein said displaying the first search result and the subset of the set of search results comprises refreshing display of the web page after said modifying. 
     
     
         7 . An apparatus comprising:
 a computer processor; and   a computer memory operatively coupled to the computer processor, the computer memory having disposed within it computer program instructions configured to:
 display a set of search results from a search, 
 responsive to selection of a first search result of the set of search results,
 identify a subset of one or more of the set of search results that indicate related links, wherein the related links comprise links having a same domain name as the link of the first search result, 
 exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results, and 
 
 display the first search result and the subset of the set of search results. 
   
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , wherein the computer program instructions are further configured to:
 determine that the related links of the subset of the set of search results match the link of the first search result up to a specified depth in a uniform resource locator (URL) pathway.   
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the computer program instructions configured to determine that the related links of the subset of the set of search results match the link of the first search result up to the specified depth in the URL pathway include computer program instructions configured to determine that URLs of the links of the subset of the search results match a URL of the link of the first search result up to a number of pathway delimiters in accordance with a number that represents the specified depth. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 7 , wherein the computer program instructions configured to exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results include computer program instructions configured to modify a web page to exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 10 , wherein the web page comprises a copy of a web page in a cache of a web browser. 
     
     
         12 . The apparatus of  claim 10 , wherein the computer program instructions configured to display the first search result and the subset of the set of search results comprise wherein the computer program instructions configured to refresh display of the web page after said modification. 
     
     
         13 . A computer program product for administration of search results, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory recording medium having computer program instructions stored therein, the computer program instructions configured to:
 display a set of search results from a search;   responsive to selection of a first search result of the set of search results,
 identify a subset of one or more of the set of search results that indicate related links, wherein the related links comprise links having a same domain name as the link of the first search result, 
 exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results; and 
   display the first search result and the subset of the set of search results.   
     
     
         14 . The computer program product of  claim 13 , wherein the computer program instructions are further configured to: determine that the related links of the subset of the set of search results match the link of the first search result up to a specified depth in a uniform resource locator (URL) pathway. 
     
     
         15 . The computer program product of  claim 14 , wherein the computer program instructions configured to determine that the related links of the subset of the set of search results match the link of the first search result up to the specified depth in the URL pathway include computer program instructions configured to determine that URLs of the links of the subset of the search results match a URL of the link of the first search result up to a number of pathway delimiters in accordance with a number that represents the specified depth. 
     
     
         16 . The computer program product of  claim 13 , wherein the computer program instructions configured to exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results include computer program instructions configured to modify a web page to exclude all of the set of search results except the first search result and the subset of the set of search results. 
     
     
         17 . The computer program product of  claim 16 , wherein the web page comprises a copy of a web page in a cache of a web browser. 
     
     
         18 . The computer program product of  claim 16 , wherein the computer program instructions configured to display the first search result and the subset of the set of search results comprise wherein the computer program instructions configured to refresh display of the web page after said modification.
