Abstract

Various arrangements for guiding installation of a monitoring device are presented. The monitoring device may receive, during installation of the monitoring device at a particular location at a structure, an input command to instantiate operation. The monitoring device, in response to receiving the input command to instantiate operation, may implement a test sequence to determine the particular location of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification. The monitoring device may, based on the test sequence, output a notification that the particular location of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A method for guiding installation of a monitoring device, comprising:
 receiving, by the monitoring device, during installation of the monitoring device at a particular location at a structure, an input command to instantiate operation; implementing, by the monitoring device in response to receiving the input command to instantiate operation, a test sequence to determine the particular location of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification; and outputting, by the monitoring device, based on the test sequence, a notification that the particular location of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification.

         2 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , wherein the test sequence performed by the monitoring device indicates a component of the monitoring device is obstructed from operating within specification.

         3 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , wherein the test sequence performed by the monitoring device indicates the monitoring device is positioned too close to an object.

         4 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , further comprising: after outputting the notification that the particular location of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification, activating two-way communication with a remote device using wireless communication circuity of the monitoring device, a microphone of the monitoring device, and a speaker of the monitoring device.

         5 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , further comprising outputting an audible message via a speaker of the monitoring device.

         6 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 5 , wherein the audible message provides an instruction to press a button of the monitoring device to initiate the testing sequence.

         7 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , further comprising outputting an auditory indication, via a speaker of the monitoring device, that a doorbell has been actuated.

         8 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , further comprising emitting light, by a light of the monitoring device, based on a measured brightness level detected using a light sensor of the monitoring device.

         9 . The method for guiding installation of the monitoring device of claim 1 , wherein the input command is based on a button of the monitoring device being activated.

         10 . A monitoring device, comprising:
 a housing; a speaker housed by the housing; a microphone housed by the housing; a button housed by the housing; a wireless communication component housed by the housing; one or more processors housed by the housing; and a memory, housed by the housing, communicatively coupled with and readable by the one or more processors and having stored therein processor-readable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
 receive during installation of the monitoring device at an instant placement, an input command to instantiate device operation;
 implement, in response to receiving the input command to instantiate device operation, a test sequence to determine the instant placement of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification; and
 output, based on the test sequence, a notification that the instant placement of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification.

         11 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , wherein the implemented test sequence indicates a component of the monitoring device is obstructed from operating within specification.

         12 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , wherein the implemented test sequence performed indicates the monitoring device is physically positioned too close to an object.

         13 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , wherein the processor-readable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to activate two-way communication, via the wireless communication component, with a remote device using the microphone and the speaker of the monitoring device.

         14 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , wherein the processor-readable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to output an audible message via the speaker of the monitoring device.

         15 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , wherein the processor-readable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to output an auditory indication, via the speaker of the monitoring device, that a doorbell has been actuated.

         16 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , further comprising a light and a light sensor, wherein the processor-readable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to cause the light to emit light based on a measured brightness level detected using the light sensor.

         17 . The monitoring device of claim 9 , wherein the input command is received from the button of the monitoring device.

         18 . A monitoring apparatus, comprising:
 an audio output means; an audio input means; a user input means; a wireless communication means; a processing means that:
 receives, during installation of the monitoring apparatus, at an instant placement, an input command to instantiate operation;
 implements, in response to receiving the input command to instantiate device operation, a test sequence to determine the instant placement of the monitoring apparatus prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification; and
 outputs, based on the test sequence, a notification that the instant placement of the monitoring device prevents the monitoring device from operating within specification.

         19 . The monitoring apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the processing means is further configured to activate two-way communication with a remote device using the wireless communication means, the audio input means, and the audio output means.

         20 . The monitoring apparatus of claim 17 , further comprising a lighting means and a light sensing means, wherein the processing means is further cause the lighting means to emit light based on a measured brightness level detected using the light sensing means.
