Door protecting covering

Abstract

A door protective covering. The door protective covering designed for placement over a hung door to protect the door from damage during various painting and remodeling tasks. The door cover is generally rectangular and enclosed along one side of its width and one side of its length to from a modified cavity wherein the cover is placed upon the door with the enclosed width resting on a top side of the door. Preferably, the door cover is provided on a roll and constructed of a plastic material.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A protective cover, the cover designed to protect a door from damage, the cover adapted for placement over a hung door during use, the cover comprising:
 a first side, the first side generally rectangular shaped and having sides defining a width and a height;   a second side, the second side opposite to the first side, the second side generally rectangular shaped and having sides defining a width and a height, the width and height being mirror images of the first side;   the first side and second side adjoined at one side of the width and one side of the height, wherein the first side and second side form a partially enclosed cavity having a thickness, the cavity formed to correspond to the size of the door the cover is placed upon.   
     
     
         2 . A protective cover as in  claim 1 , wherein the cover is provided on a roll. 
     
     
         3 . A protective cover as in  claim 1 , wherein the cover is formed from a large sheet. 
     
     
         4 . A protective cover as in  claim 3 , wherein the sheet is folded along its height and sealed upon one side of its width to form the first side and the second side. 
     
     
         5 . A protective cover as in  claim 1 , wherein the cover is constructed out of plastic. 
     
     
         6 . A protective cover, the cover designed to protect a door from damage, the cover adapted for placement over a hung door during use, the cover comprising:
 a first side, the first side generally rectangular shaped and having:
 a first first side, the first first side defining a width of the first side, the width corresponding generally to the width of the door; 
 a second first side, the second first side adjacent to the first first side and defining a height, the height generally corresponding to the height of the door; 
 a third first side, the third first side adjacent to the second first side and opposite the first first side, the third first side defining a width corresponding to the width of the first first side; and 
 a fourth first side, the fourth first side adjacent to the third first side and opposite the second first side, the fourth first side defining a height corresponding to the height of the second first side, wherein the first first side, the second first side, the third first side, and the fourth first side define the perimeter of a rectangle, the rectangle generally sized to correspond to the size of the door; 
   a second side, the second side opposite to the first side and having a shape mirroring the first side, the second side having:
 a first second side, the first second side defining a width of the second side, the width corresponding generally to the width of the door and the first first side; 
 a second second side, the second second side adjacent to the first second side and defining a height, the height generally corresponding to the height of the door and the second first side; 
 a third second side, the third second side adjacent to the second second side and opposite the first second side, the third second side defining a width corresponding to the width of the first second side; and 
 a fourth second side, the fourth second side adjacent to the third second side and opposite the second second side, the fourth second side defining a height corresponding to the height of the second second side, wherein the first second side, the second second side, the third second side, and the fourth second side define the perimeter of a rectangle, the rectangle generally sized to correspond to the size of the door and the first side; 
   the first side and second side adjoined along the first first side and the second first side and second second side, wherein the first side and second side form a pocket, the pocket closed along the first side and the second side and open along the third side and fourth side, wherein the first side is placed upon a top of the door to be protected and the second side is placed adjacent to the open door portion of the door to be protected during use.   
     
     
         7 . A protective cover as in  claim 6 , wherein the cover is provided on a roll. 
     
     
         8 . A protective cover as in  claim 6 , wherein the cover is formed from a large sheet. 
     
     
         9 . A protective cover as in  claim 8 , wherein the sheet is folded along its height to form the second first side and the second second side. 
     
     
         10 . A protective cover as in  claim 6 , wherein the device is constructed out of plastic. 
     
     
         11 . A method of protecting a door using a door cover as is described in  claims 1 - 10 , the method comprising:
 aligning the first side with the top of the door to be protected;   aligning the second side with the open portion of the door to be protected;   placing the cover over the door with the first side resting on the top side of the door by pulling the cover over the door until it reaches the hinges of the hung door; and   securing the cover to the door as necessary.   
     
     
         12 . A method as in  claim 11 , wherein the cover is first selected from a roll. 
     
     
         13 . A method as in  claim 11 , wherein the cover is secured to the door with tape.
