Mapping application with 3d presentation

Abstract

A device that includes at least one processing unit and stores a multi-mode mapping program for execution by the at least one processing unit is described. The program includes a user interface (UI). The UI includes a display area for displaying a two-dimensional (2D) presentation of a map or a three-dimensional (3D) presentation of the map. The UI includes a selectable 3D control for directing the program to transition between the 2D and 3D presentations.

         37 . A machine readable medium storing a mapping application for execution by at least one processing unit of a device, the device comprising a touch-sensitive screen and a touch input interface, the program comprising sets of instructions for:
 displaying an identifier associated with a location on a displayed map resulting from a search, wherein the identifier comprises (i) information about the associated location and (ii) a selectable user interface (UI) item for presenting an information display area for displaying information about the associated location; and   upon selection of the selectable UI item of the identifier, presenting the information display area comprising:
 a first display area for displaying different types of graphical media for the associated location; and 
 a second display area for displaying additional information for the associated location. 
   
     
     
         38 . The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the program further comprises a set of instructions for receiving a search query for the search through a search tool of the map application.

The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the program further comprises a set of instructions for displaying a set of selectable search results on the displayed map based on the search, wherein the identifier is displayed in response to a selection of a selectable search result for the associated location on the displayed map.

The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the identifier is a first identifier, the program further comprising a set of instructions for displaying a second identifier concurrently with the first identifier, each identifier including a selectable UI item for presenting a different information display area comprising at least one of different graphical media and different additional information. 
     
     
         41 . The machine readable medium of  claim 39 , wherein the identifier associated with the selected search result includes a name for the selected search result. 
     
     
         42 . The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the information display area completely overlaps the displayed map. 
     
     
         43 . The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the information display area partially overlaps the displayed map. 
     
     
         44 . The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the information display area further comprises a set of selectable items, each of which is for displaying a particular type of additional information in the second display area.

         46 . The machine readable medium of  claim 37 , wherein the first display area is further for displaying different sets of graphical media for the location.

 wherein the second display area includes a selectable item for launching a third-party application other than the mapping application,   wherein the third-party application is for entering a review about a business entity at the particular location.   
     
     
         49 . A device comprising:
 at least one processing unit;   a touch-sensitive screen;   a touch input interface; and   a machine readable medium storing a mapping application for execution by the at least one processing unit, the program comprising sets of instructions for:
 displaying an identifier associated with a location on a displayed map resulting from a search, wherein the identifier comprises (i) information about the associated location and (ii) a selectable user interface (UI) item for presenting an information display area for displaying information about the associated location; and 
 upon selection of the selectable UI item of the identifier, presenting the information display area comprising:
 a first display area for displaying different types of graphical media for the associated location; and 
 a second display area for displaying additional information for the associated location.

The device of  claim 49 , wherein the program further comprises a set of instructions for displaying a set of selectable search results on the displayed map based on the search, wherein the identifier is displayed in response to a selection of a selectable search result for the associated location on the displayed map.

The device of  claim 49 , wherein the identifier is a first identifier, the program further comprising a set of instructions for displaying a second identifier concurrently with the first identifier, each identifier including a selectable UI item for presenting a different information display area comprising at least one of different graphical media and different additional information. 
     
     
         52 . The device of  claim 50 , wherein the identifier associated with the selected search result includes a name for the selected search result. 
     
     
         53 . The device of  claim 49 , wherein the graphical media comprises at least one of a video clip and a slide show generated from one or more images. 
     
     
         54 . The device of  claim 53 , wherein the images in the slide show are generated from one image and are sequentially displayed using a Ken Burns effect. 
     
     
         55 . The device of  claim 53 , wherein the video clip shows the associated location from a viewpoint that circles above the location. 
     
     
         56 . The device of  claim 53 , wherein at least one image is of an interior of a business entity at the location.
