System, method and computer program product for displaying a record as part of a selected grouping of data

Abstract

In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for displaying a record as part of a selected grouping of data, including for example, identifying a record of a multi-tenant on-demand database system, displaying a plurality of actions associated with the record, and displaying the record as part of a selected grouping of data, within the system in response to the user selecting an option to view the record as part of a selected grouping included within the table of the record. These mechanisms and methods for displaying a record as part of a selected grouping of data can enable improved data access, simplify and expedite a user's workflow, etc.

1 . A computer program product embodied on a tangible computer readable medium, comprising:
 computer code for identifying a record of a multi-tenant on-demand database system;   computer code for displaying one or more actions associated with the record;   computer code for performing one of the actions associated with the record, based on a selection of one of the actions.   
     
     
         2 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the record is able to be viewed in one or more contexts. 
     
     
         3 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the record is associated with one or more objects of the system. 
     
     
         4 . The computer program product of  claim 3 , wherein the computer program product is operable such that the one or more objects of the system provide a context in which the record is accessed. 
     
     
         5 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions include viewing the record in a particular context. 
     
     
         6 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more actions include performing an action on the record. 
     
     
         7 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the computer program product is operable such that the one or more actions associated with the record are displayed to a user in response to the selection of the record by the user. 
     
     
         8 . The computer program product of  claim 7 , wherein the computer program product is operable such that the one or more actions associated with the record are displayed to the user in response to the user right clicking on an icon associated with the record. 
     
     
         9 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein displaying the one or more actions is performed by accessing metadata associated with the record. 
     
     
         10 . The computer program product of  claim 9 , wherein the computer program product is operable such that metadata that describes one or more objects that are associated with the record and/or one or more contexts in which a record can be viewed are stored in association with the record. 
     
     
         11 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein identifying the record includes selecting the record. 
     
     
         12 . The computer program product of  claim 11 , wherein the computer program product is operable such that a user selects the record utilizing a graphical user interface. 
     
     
         13 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the record includes an identifier. 
     
     
         14 . The computer program product of  claim 6 , wherein the action includes building a chart utilizing the record. 
     
     
         15 . The computer program product of  claim 6 , wherein the action includes performing one or more calculations on the record. 
     
     
         16 . The computer program product of  claim 6 , wherein the action includes adding a record to an object. 
     
     
         17 . The computer program product of  claim 1 , wherein the user selects one of the displayed actions associated with the record. 
     
     
         18 . The computer program product of  claim 3 , wherein one or more objects include one or more of a collection of a particular employment position within the system, a collection of contacts within the system, a collection of accounts within the system, and a collection of opportunities within the system. 
     
     
         19 . A method, comprising:
 identifying a record of a multi-tenant on-demand database system;   displaying one or more actions associated with the record;   performing one of the actions associated with the record, based on a selection of one of the actions.   
     
     
         20 . An apparatus, comprising:
 a processor for:   identifying a record of a multi-tenant on-demand database system;   displaying one or more actions associated with the record;   performing one of the actions associated with the record, based on a selection of one of the actions.   
     
     
         21 . A method for transmitting code for use in a multi-tenant database system on a transmission medium, the method comprising:
 transmitting code for identifying a record of a multi-tenant on-demand database system;   transmitting code for displaying one or more actions associated with the record;   transmitting code for performing one of the actions associated with the record, based on a selection of one of the actions.
