Abstract
A cage setting is disclosed and method of retaining an object in a cage setting is disclosed. The cage setting defines a free space therein, configured for retaining an object therein. The cage setting includes a first and second cage end bodies. A number of bar members extend between the first and second end bodies. Each bar member has a first and second end secured the first and second end bodies, respectively. The bar members extend along a periphery that defines the free space. Each adjacent pair of bar members defines a gap having a first gap width that that allows an object to be inserted into the free space. Upon twisting, the first end body with respect to the second end body, the gap is altered to a second gap width, narrower than the first gap width, which captures the object within the free space.

1 . A cage setting defining a free space therein, and configured for retaining an object in the free space, the cage setting comprising:
a first cage end body; a second cage end body; a plurality of bar members extending between the first end body and the second end body, each bar member having a first end secured to the first cage end body, and each bar member having a second end secured to the second cage end body; wherein the plurality of bar members extend along a periphery that defines a free space between the plurality of bar members; wherein a pair of the plurality of bar members defines a gap having a first gap width that that allows an object to be inserted through the gap into the free space defined by the plurality of bar members; and wherein, upon twisting the first cage end body with respect to the second cage end body, the gap is altered to have a second gap width, the first gap width being greater than the second gap width.
2 . The cage setting of claim 1 , wherein the first cage end body is formed with a loop.
3 . The cage setting of claim 2 , wherein the second cage end body is formed with a loop.
4 . The cage setting of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of bar members is four bar members.
5 . The cage setting of claim 4 , wherein the first gap width between all pairs of the plurality of bar members is equal.
6 . The cage setting of claim 1 , wherein the first end body includes a first joint region formed from the plurality of bar members.
7 . The cage setting of claim 6 , wherein the second end body includes a second joint region formed from the plurality of bar members.
8 . The cage setting of claim 1 , wherein each bar member include a middle portion with two end portions extending therefrom, wherein the end portion angle inwardly towards the first end body and the second end body, respectively.
9 . The cage setting of claim 1 , wherein the free space defined by the plurality of bar members has a substantially pyramid-shaped region at the first cage end body and the second cage end body, and a substantially square region in a middle.
10 . A cage setting kit comprising:
a cage setting, the cage setting comprising:
a first cage end body;
a second cage end body;
a plurality of bar members extending between the first end body and the second end body, each bar member having a first end secured to the first cage end body, and each bar member having a second end secured to the second cage end body;
wherein the plurality of bar members extend along a periphery that defines a free space between the plurality of bar members;
wherein a pair of the plurality of bar members defines a gap having a first gap width that that allows an object to be inserted through the gap into the free space defined by the plurality of bar members; and
wherein, upon twisting the first cage end body with respect to the second cage end body, the gap is altered to have a second gap width, the first gap width being greater than the second gap width; and
a pair of setting tools, each setting tool having a slot defined at a respective first end of each setting tool, the slots of the setting tools being configured to receive therein the first cage end and the second cage end, respectively.
11 . The cage setting kit of claim 10 , wherein each setting tool is a cylinder having a first end and a second end, with a cylindrical outer wall extending between the first end and the second end,
12 . The cage setting kit of claim 11 , wherein each setting tool has an axis extending from the respective first end to the respective second end.
13 . The cage setting kit of claim 12 , wherein the slot extends in the direction of the respective axis.
14 . A method of setting an object in a cage setting, the method comprising the steps of:
providing an object; providing a cage setting, the cage setting comprising:
a first cage end body;
a second cage end body;
a plurality of bar members extending between the first end body and the second end body, each bar member having a first end secured to the first cage end body, and each bar member having a second end secured to the second cage end body;
wherein the plurality of bar members extend along a periphery that defines a free space between the plurality of bar members;
wherein a pair of the plurality of bar members defines a gap having a first gap width that that allows an object to be inserted through the gap into the free space defined by the plurality of bar members; and providing a pair of setting tools;
each setting tool being a cylinder having a first end and a second end, with a cylindrical outer wall extending between the first end and the second end, each setting tool having an axis extending from the respective first end to the respective second end; and
a slot defined at the respective first end of each setting tool, the slot extending in the direction of the respective axis, the slots of the setting tools being configured to receive therein the first cage end and the second cage end, respectively;
inserting an object through said gap and into said free space inserting the first end body into a first one of the slots, and inserting the second end body into a second one of the slots; aligning the axis of the first setting tool with the axis of the second setting tool; rotating the first setting tool with respect to the second setting tool, and about the axis of the first setting tool, thereby causing the gap to be altered to have a second gap width, the first gap width being greater than the second gap width; removing the first end body from the first one of the slots, and removing the second end body from the second one of the slots.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
