Abstract
Disclosed herein are vesicular formulations that include one or more phospholipids and one or more surfactants and in certain embodiments the use of such formulations for the delivery of fatty acids for the treatment of disorders such as fatty acid metabolic disorders, including essential fatty acid deficiency; pain or inflammation or osteoarthritis, more specifically for the treatment of deep tissue pain; asthma, bronchospasm, atherothrombatic cardiovascular disorders, avenous thrombatic disorders, inflammatory dermatoses disorders (e.g., atopic eczema, dishydrotic hand eczema, plaque type psoriasis, seborrheic eczema, and acne vulgaris), and dysmenorrhea.

123 . A formulation consisting essentially of:
4-10% by weight phospholipid, wherein said phospholipid possesses a phosphatidyl group; 0-5% by weight surfactant, wherein said surfactant is a polyoxyethylene sorbitan; a buffer; one or two antioxidants; an antimicrobial; an emollient; a chelator; and 1-4% by weight of a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier;
wherein the formulation is free of a pharmaceutically active agent.
124 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the formulation comprises 0.2-5% by weight surfactant.
125 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the formulation further comprises a thickener.
126 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the formulation comprises 0.2-5% by weight surfactant and further comprises a thickener.
127 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the surfactant is Tween 80.
128 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the phospholipid is phosphatidylcholine.
129 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the surfactant is from 0.4% to 0.9% by weight and is Tween 80.
130 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the formulation contains 7% by weight phosphatidylcholine.
131 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein at least one of the antimicrobials is a quaternary ammonium compound.
132 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the lipid is a lysophospholipid.
133 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein at least one antioxidant is BHA.
134 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the formulation contains ethanol or benzyl alcohol.
135 . The formulation of claim 1 wherein the formulation is a cream, lotion, ointment, gel, solution, spray, or a lacquer or film forming solution.
136 . A kit comprising the formulation of claim 1 and instructions for use.
137 . A method for treating inflammatory dermatoses disorders or fungal infection in a subject, comprising topically administering an effective amount of the formulation of claim 1 to the subject.
