Abstract

An electronic programming guide generator utilizes filters to select only programming filtered to display in an electronic programming guide display.

         5 . A method for removing from a display media asset identifiers that do not satisfy a prioritized filter during a time interval, the method comprising:
 receiving a selection of a first filter associated with a first plurality of media asset identifiers and a second filter associated with a second plurality of media asset identifiers, wherein the first filter is associated with a first priority during a first time interval and the second filter is associated with a second priority, lower than the first priority, during the first time interval;   generating a display including the first plurality of media asset identifiers and the second plurality of media asset identifiers;   determining, subsequent to generating the display, that a current time of day is within the first time interval; and   in response to determining that the current time of day is within the first time interval:
 determining that the second priority is lower than the first priority; 
 identifying one or more media asset identifiers from the display that are not associated with the first filter; and 
 updating the display to remove the one or more identified media asset identifiers. 
   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 determining whether a media asset corresponding to one of the first plurality of media asset identifiers is available from a service provider; and   in response to determining that the media asset is not available from the service provider, visually distinguishing a media asset identifier associated with the media asset from media asset identifiers associated with media assets that are available from the service provider.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 determining whether a plurality of media assets corresponding to media asset identifiers that are associated with the first filter are accessible to a user; and   in response to determining that one or more media assets in the plurality of media assets are not accessible to the user, visually distinguishing media asset identifiers associated with the one or more media assets from media asset identifiers associated with media assets that are accessible to the user.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 determining that a first media asset is available but is not accessible, wherein the first media asset corresponds to a first media asset identifier that is associated with the first filter;   in response to determining that the first media asset is available but is not accessible, enabling a user to access the media asset by allowing the user to subscribe to the media asset.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 receiving a third priority for the first filter during a second time interval and a fourth priority, higher than the third priority, for the second filter during the second time interval, wherein the second time interval is different from the first time interval;   determining, subsequent to updating the display to remove the identified media asset identifiers, that a different current time of day is within the second time interval; and   updating the display to: (1) insert the one more media asset identifiers that are not associated with the first filter, and (2) remove media asset identifiers that are not associated with the second filter.   
     
     
         10 . A system for removing from a display media asset identifiers that do not satisfy a prioritized filter during a time interval, the system comprising:
 control circuitry configured to:
 receive a selection of a first filter associated with a first plurality of media asset identifiers and a second filter associated with a second plurality of media asset identifiers, wherein the first filter is associated with a first priority during a first time interval and the second filter is associated with a second priority, lower than the first priority, during the first time interval; 
 generate a display including the first plurality of media asset identifiers and the second plurality of media asset identifiers; 
 determine, subsequent to generating the display, that a current time of day is within the first time interval; and 
 in response to determining that the current time of day is within the first time interval:
 determine that the second priority is lower than the first priority; 
 identify one or more media asset identifiers from the display that are not associated with the first filter; and 
 update the display to remove the one or more identified media asset identifiers. 
 
   
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 determine whether a media asset corresponding to one of the first plurality of media asset identifiers is available from a service provider; and   in response to determining that the media asset is not available from the service provider, visually distinguish a media asset identifier associated with the media asset from media asset identifiers associated with media assets that are available from the service provider.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 determine whether a plurality of media assets corresponding to media asset identifiers that are associated with the first filter are accessible to a user; and   in response to determining that one or more media assets in the plurality of media assets are not accessible to the user, visually distinguish media asset identifiers associated with the one or more media assets from media asset identifiers associated with media assets that are accessible to the user.   
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 determine that a first media asset is available but is not accessible, wherein the first media asset corresponds to a first media asset identifier that is associated with the first filter;   in response to determining that the first media asset is available but is not accessible, enable a user to access the media asset by allowing the user to subscribe to the media asset.   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 receive a third priority for the first filter during a second time interval and a fourth priority, higher than the third priority, for the second filter during the second time interval, wherein the second time interval is different from the first time interval;   determine, subsequent to updating the display to remove the identified media asset identifiers, that a different current time of day is within the second time interval; and   update the display to: (1) insert the one more media asset identifiers that are not associated with the first filter, and (2) remove media asset identifiers that are not associated with the second filter.   
     
     
         15 . An apparatus for removing from a display media asset identifiers that do not satisfy a prioritized filter during a time interval, the system comprising:
 means for receiving a selection of a first filter associated with a first plurality of media asset identifiers and a second filter associated with a second plurality of media asset identifiers, wherein the first filter is associated with a first priority during a first time interval and the second filter is associated with a second priority, lower than the first priority, during the first time interval;   means for generating a display including the first plurality of media asset identifiers and the second plurality of media asset identifiers;   means for determining, subsequent to generating the display, that a current time of day is within the first time interval; and   means for in response to determining that the current time of day is within the first time interval:
 determining that the second priority is lower than the first priority; 
 identifying one or more media asset identifiers from the display that are not associated with the first filter; and 
 updating the display to remove the one or more identified media asset identifiers. 
   
     
     
         16 . The apparatus of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 means for determining whether a media asset corresponding to one of the first plurality of media asset identifiers is available from a service provider; and   means for, in response to determining that the media asset is not available from the service provider, visually distinguishing a media asset identifier associated with the media asset from media asset identifiers associated with media assets that are available from the service provider.   
     
     
         17 . The apparatus of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 means for determining whether a plurality of media assets corresponding to media asset identifiers that are associated with the first filter are accessible to a user; and   means for, in response to determining that one or more media assets in the plurality of media assets are not accessible to the user, visually distinguishing media asset identifiers associated with the one or more media assets from media asset identifiers associated with media assets that are accessible to the user.   
     
     
         18 . The apparatus of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 means for determining that a first media asset is available but is not accessible, wherein the first media asset corresponds to a first media asset identifier that is associated with the first filter;   in response to determining that the first media asset is available but is not accessible, means for enabling a user to access the media asset by allowing the user to subscribe to the media asset.   
     
     
         19 . The apparatus of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 means for receiving a third priority for the first filter during a second time interval and a fourth priority, higher than the third priority, for the second filter during the second time interval, wherein the second time interval is different from the first time interval;   means for determining, subsequent to updating the display to remove the identified media asset identifiers, that a different current time of day is within the second time interval; and   means for updating the display to: (1) insert the one more media asset identifiers that are not associated with the first filter, and (2) remove media asset identifiers that are not associated with the second filter.
