Abstract

Technologies are generally described for generating a preview of a content file dynamically based at least in part on content features of the content file. In some examples, a content preview system may include a content feature analysis unit configured to analyze one or more content features of a content file, and a preview type determination unit configured to determine a preview type for the content file based at least in part on the content features analyzed by the content feature analysis unit.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A method to dynamically provide a preview of a content file, comprising:
 analyzing, by a server, one or more content features of the content file to determine a property of the content file;   determining, by the server, a preview type for the content file from among candidate preview types based at least in part on the determined property of the content file;   receiving, by the server, customer review information regarding the content file, sales information regarding the content file, and a purchase history of a user;   determining, by the server, an amount of the preview of the content file based at least in part on the customer review information, the sales information, and the purchase history of the user; and   generating, by the server, the preview of the content file for the user based at least in part on the determined preview type for the content file and the determined amount of preview of the content file.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content file includes an electronic book file, an audio book file, a video file, a music file, or a game file. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content file is an electronic book and the property of the content file includes at least one of a story property, a separability property, or a specialty property. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the determining the preview type for the content file includes determining the preview type for the content file as a beginning of the electronic book when the property of the electronic book includes a story property. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the determining the preview type for the content file includes determining the preview type for the content file as a portion of every page of the electronic book when the property of the electronic book includes a separability property. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the determining the preview type for the content file includes determining the preview type for the content file as a portion of sentences in the electronic book when the property of the electronic book includes a specialty property. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining an amount of the preview of the content file includes reducing the amount of the preview of the content when the customer review information increases. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining an amount of the preview of the content file includes increasing the amount of the preview of the content file when the sales information decreases. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining an amount of the preview of the content file includes increasing the amount of the preview of the content file when the purchase history of the user increases. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content file is an electronic book and the preview type for the content file includes a mosaic view of every page of the electronic book, an embossed view of every page of the electronic book, or a shaded view of every page of the electronic book. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the content file is an electronic book and the analyzing the one or more content features of the content file includes:
 partitioning the electronic book into words, images and tables;   calculating at least one of a ratio between text and images in the electronic book and a ratio between text and tables in the electronic book;   detecting a frequency of occurrence of technical terms in the electronic book;   detecting change of a frequency of occurrence of a word throughout the electronic book; or detecting a repeated structure throughout the electronic book.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein respective properties are defined as respective percentage values in the range of 0% to 100%, and a respective relationship between the respective properties and the candidate preview types are represented by a weight value of each of the respective properties. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the determining the preview type for the content file from among candidate preview types comprises:
 determining a relevance of respective candidate preview types to the analyzed content file as a product of at least the respective percentage value and a respective weight value of each of the respective properties;   determining which of the respective candidate preview types has a highest relevance to the analyzed content file; and   selecting from among the respective candidate preview types, the preview type having the highest relevance as the preview type for the content file.   
     
     
         14 . A server for dynamically providing a preview of a content file, comprising:
 at least one processor and memory,   the at least one processor configured to:
 analyze one or more content features of the content file to determine a property of the content file; 
 determine a preview type for the content file from among candidate preview types based at least in part on the determined property of the content file; 
 receive customer review information regarding the content file, sales information regarding the content file, and a purchase history of a user; 
 determine an amount of the preview of the content file based at least in part on the customer review information, the sales information, and the purchase history of the user; and 
 generate the preview of the content file for the user based at least in part on the determined preview type for the content file and the determined amount of preview of the content file. 
   
     
     
         15 . The server of  claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
 transmit the generated preview of the content file to an electronic device associated with the user, the electronic device including a tablet, a smartphone, a mobile phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), an electronic book reader, a media player, a game console, a laptop computer, or a desktop computer.   
     
     
         16 . The server of  claim 14 , wherein the content file includes an electronic book file, an audio book file, a video file, a music file, or a game file. 
     
     
         17 . The server of  claim 14 , wherein the content file is an electronic book and the property of the content file includes at least one of a story property, a separability property, or a specialty property. 
     
     
         18 . The server of  claim 17 , wherein the at least one processor configured to determine the preview type for the content file by:
 determining the preview type for the content file as a beginning of the electronic book when the property of the electronic book includes a story property,   determining the preview type for the content file as a portion of every page of the electronic book when the property of the electronic book includes a separability property, and   determining the preview type for the content file as a portion of sentences in the electronic book when the property of the electronic book includes a specialty property.   
     
     
         19 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that, in response to execution, cause a server to perform operations, comprising:
 analyzing one or more content features of the content file to determine a property of the content file;   determining a preview type for the content file from among candidate preview types based at least in part on the determined property of the content file;   receiving customer review information regarding the content file, sales information regarding the content file, and a purchase history of a user;   determining an amount of the preview of the content file based at least in part on the customer review information, the sales information, and the purchase history of the user; and   generating the preview of the content file for the user based at least in part on the determined preview type for the content file and the determined amount of preview of the content file.   
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 19 , wherein the content file is an electronic book and the property of the content file includes at least one of a story property, a separability property, or a specialty property.
