Aircraft retrieval

Abstract

A process for aircraft retrieval and aircraft crash site remediation may include establishing a perimeter at an aircraft crash site. The process may include containing wreckage in a containment unit that is adapted to prevent release of hazardous materials into the environment. The wreckage may include wreckage of an aircraft from the aircraft crash site. The process may include washing at least some of the wreckage in a decontamination unit. The process may include packaging the washed wreckage in a container.

         27 . A containment unit comprising:
 a base;   one or more sidewalls coupled to the base, wherein the one or more sidewalls extend from the base forming a containment space; and   one or more coverings coupled to the base, the one or more sidewalls, or combinations thereof, wherein the one or more coverings include one or more retention layers and one or more cushion layers.   
     
     
         28 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the base comprises metal, timber, or composite timber. 
     
     
         29 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more sidewalls comprise metal, timber, or composite timber. 
     
     
         30 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein each sidewall is coupled to one or more adjacent sidewalls of the one or more sidewalls. 
     
     
         31 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more coverings are draped over or laminated to the base, the one or more sidewalls, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         32 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more retention layers are impermeable or substantially impermeable to liquid, particulates, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         33 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more retention layers comprise polymeric sheeting. 
     
     
         34 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more retention layers comprise polypropylene sheeting. 
     
     
         35 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein at least one retention layer has a thickness ranging from 2 mil to 20 mil. 
     
     
         36 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more cushion layers form a contiguous layer over the base and the one or more sidewalls. 
     
     
         37 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more cushion layers comprise one or more elastically deformable rigid layers arranged adjacent to or between one or more impact damping layers. 
     
     
         38 . The containment unit of  claim 37 , wherein the one or more impact damping layers comprise a felt material, and the one or more elastically deformable rigid layers comprise plastic, metal, plastic coated metal, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         39 . The containment unit of  claim 38 , wherein the one or more elastically deformable rigid layers comprise a chain link material including a polymeric coating. 
     
     
         40 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein an uppermost layer of the one or more coverings comprises a retention layer having a thickness ranging from 40 mil to 150 mil. 
     
     
         41 . The containment unit of  claim 27 , wherein the containment unit is adapted to prevent release of hazardous materials into the environment, the hazardous materials comprising hydrocarbons, heavy metals, radioactive material, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         42 . A decontamination unit comprising:
 one or more walls coupled to a trailer;   a door coupled to the one or more walls;   a bottom surface located between the one or more walls; and   a drain formed in the bottom surface, wherein, when the door is closed, a cavity or basin is formed in the decontamination unit.   
     
     
         43 . A container comprising:
 a first end cap;   a second end cap;   optionally one or more intermediate portions;   wherein the first end cap is coupled to the second end cap or wherein the first end cap is coupled to one of the one or more intermediate portions and the second end cap is coupled to one of the one or more intermediate portions opposite the first end cap;   wherein the container is adapted to be coupled with a transportation structure.   
     
     
         44 . A system comprising:
 a container, the container including a first end cap, a second end cap, and optionally one or more intermediate portions, wherein the first end cap is coupled to the second end cap or wherein the first end cap is coupled to one of the one or more intermediate portions and the second end cap is coupled to one of the one or more intermediate portions opposite the first end cap, and wherein the container is adapted to be coupled with a transportation structure;   a decontamination unit, the decontamination unit including one or more walls coupled to a trailer, a door coupled to the one or more walls, a bottom surface located between the one or more walls, and a drain formed in the bottom surface, wherein, when the door is closed, a cavity or basin is formed in the decontamination unit;   a containment unit, the containment unit including a base; one or more sidewalls coupled to the base, wherein the one or more sidewalls extend from the base forming a containment space; and one or more coverings coupled to the base, the one or more sidewalls, or combinations thereof, wherein the one or more coverings include one or more retention layers and one or more cushion layers; or   combinations thereof.   
     
     
         45 . The system of  claim 44 , wherein the system comprises the container, the decontamination unit, and the containment unit. 
     
     
         46 . The system of  claim 44 , further comprising a personnel decontamination unit including one or more contaminated rooms, one or more wash rooms, and one or more clean rooms.
