Abstract

A printing server includes a registration request reception unit, a registration unit which allocates connection information for connection with the transmission origin of the registration request and an electronic mail address for receiving a printing request to the transmission origin of the registration request, a registration information transmission unit which transmits the registration information which has been allocated, a connection unit which receives the connection information and starts connection, a printing data generation unit which generates printing data, a printing waiting information transmission unit which transmits printing waiting information to the transmission origin of the XMPP connection request using XMPP when the printing data is generated, and a printing data transmission unit which receives an acquisition request for the printing data and transmits the printing data to the transmission origin of the acquisition request for the printing data according to the acquisition request for the printing data.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A printer comprising:
 (a) a first component that connects to a server on a network; (b) a second component that retrieves printing data from the server; (c) a third component that prints based on the printing data retrieved from the server; and (d) a fourth component that prints or displays information indicating whether or not the first component successfully submitted a registration request to the server; wherein the information that the fourth component prints or displays is based on registration-results information retrieved from the server.

         2 . The printer of claim 1 , wherein:
after the first components submits the registration request to the server, the second component retrieves interim registration information from the server.

3 . The printer of claim 2 , wherein the interim registration information includes an internal printer ID assigned to the printer by the server, a first password assigned to the printer by the server, an URL of a management page, and a second password for the management page.

         4 . The printer of claim 2 , wherein:
the interim registration information includes an internal printer ID assigned to the printer by the server; in response to the second component retrieving the internal printer ID from the server, the first component transmits the internal printer ID to the server as a print-job generation request; the second component retrieves from the server a resultant print-job generated by the server, the resultant print-job including the registration-results information; and the fourth component uses the third component to print the retrieved print-job.

         5 . The printer of claim 2 , wherein:
in response to the retrieved interim registration information indicating that the printer is successfully registered, the first component transmits a registration-results print job generation request to the server; the second component retrieves a generated registration-result print job from the server, the registered-results print job including the registration-results information; and the fourth component uses the third component to print the retrieved generated registration-result print job as said print data.

         6 . The printer of claim 1 , wherein:
the first component is further connectable to a network terminal on the network, the printer interprets receiving network connection information from the network terminal, as a start-up request from the network terminal, and responds by sending to the network terminal registration state information.

7 . The printer of claim 6 , wherein the network connection information is at least one of a DNS mode, a network address of a proxy server, and a port number of a proxy server.

8 . The printer of claim 6 , wherein the network connection information corresponds to the server.

9 . The printer of claim 6 , wherein the registration state information includes an URL of a management page of the printer, and a login password of the management page.

10 . The printer of claim 6 , wherein the registration state information includes at least one of an electronic mail address allocated to the printer, a connection state of the printer and the server, and a registration state of the printer to the server.

         11 . The printer of claim 6 , wherein:
the terminal registration state information indicates whether the printer is registered with the server; in response to receiving the network connection information from the network terminal and to the printer not being registered with the server, the first components submits the registration request to the server and an ID uniquely identifying the printer; and the second component retrieves registration information from the server.

12 . The printer of claim 11 , wherein the registration information includes an internal printer ID assigned to the printer by the server, a first password assigned to the printer by the server, an URL of a management page, and a second password for the management page.

         13 . The printer of claim 12 , wherein:
in response to the second component retrieving the internal printer ID from the server, the first component transmits the internal printer ID to the server as a print-job generation request; the second component retrieves from the server a resultant print-job generated by the server, the resultant print-job including the registration-results information; and the fourth component uses the third component to print the retrieved print-job.

         14 . The printer of claim 11 , wherein:
in response to the retrieved registration information indicating that the printer is successfully registered with the server, the first component transmits a registration-results print job generation request to the server; the second component retrieves a generated registration-result print job from the server, the generated registered-results print job including the registration-results information; and the fourth component uses the third component to print the retrieved generated registration-result print job as said print data.
