Abstract

A method and apparatus for serving high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) cell change are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends a measurement report to a radio network controller (RNC) when a signal strength of a target cell approaches a signal strength of a source cell. The RNC adds the target cell in an active set and sends pre-loaded HS-DSCH configuration information for the target cell to the WTRU. The WTRU sends another measurement report when a signal strength of the target cell exceeds that of the source cell. The WTRU monitors a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) on the target cell based on the pre-loaded HS-DSCH configuration information and decodes an HS-SCCH transmission. The WTRU determines whether a MAC-hs/ehs reset is required and if so resets a MAC-hs/ehs entity prior to receiving an HS-DSCH transmission from the target cell.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 23 . (canceled)

         24 . A network entity comprising:
 a processor configured to:
determine serving cell change information based on whether the network entity supports MAC preservation; and
send the serving cell change information to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) via an active set update procedure.

25 . The network entity of claim 24 , wherein the serving cell change information comprises a media access control (MAC) reset indicator.

26 . The network entity of claim 24 , wherein the serving cell change information comprises a media access control (MAC) reset indicator, and wherein the processor is configured to perform at least one of:
set a value of the MAC reset indicator to true on a condition that the network entity does not support MAC preservation; or set the value of the MAC reset indicator to false on a condition that the network entity supports MAC preservation.

27 . The network entity of claim 24 , wherein the serving cell change information is sent via an active set update message.

         28 . A method comprising:
determining serving cell change information associated with a network entity based on whether the network entity supports MAC preservation; and sending the serving cell change information to a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) via an active set update procedure.

29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the serving cell change information comprises a media access control (MAC) reset indicator

30 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the serving cell change information comprises a media access control (MAC) reset indicator, and wherein the method further comprises at least one of:
setting a value of the MAC reset indicator to true on a condition that the network entity does not support MAC preservation; or setting the value of the MAC reset indicator to false on a condition that the network entity supports MAC preservation.

31 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the serving cell change information is sent via an active set update message.
