Applied automatic demographic analysis

Abstract

Systems, methods, and media for managing a data stream are provided. Data representing an input of an individual is received, with the individual being in an environment. Information of the environment is correlated with the data representing the input of the individual to determine a demographic descriptor. The demographic descriptor is correlated with a content of the data stream to determine whether a predetermined condition is satisfied. The content of the data stream is modified when the predetermined condition is satisfied to generate a modified data stream. The modified data stream is transmitted to a device disposed in the environment when the content of the data stream is modified.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system for managing transmission of a data stream, the system comprising:
 a processor; and   a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:
 receiving data representing an input of an individual, the individual being in an environment; 
 correlating information of the environment with the data representing the input of the individual to determine a demographic descriptor; 
 correlating the demographic descriptor with a content of the data stream to determine whether a predetermined condition is satisfied; 
 modifying the content of the data stream when the predetermined condition is satisfied to generate a modified data stream; and 
 transmitting the modified data stream to a device disposed in the environment when the content of the data stream is modified. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the environment includes a household, and   the information is of residents of the household.   
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , the operations further comprising:
 determining one of the residents to which the individual corresponds based on the data representing the input of the individual,   wherein the information of the environment with which the data representing the input of the individual is correlated to determine the demographic descriptor includes information of the one of the residents to which the individual is determined to correspond.   
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the predetermined condition includes making an association between the demographic descriptor and a particular content, and   the content of the data stream is modified to display an advertisement for the particular content when the predetermined condition is satisfied for generating the modified data stream.   
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 4 , wherein the content of the data stream is modified to display the advertisement along with the content. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the demographic descriptor includes an age of the individual, and   the predetermined condition includes determining whether the age of the individual is less than a recommended viewing age of the content of the data stream.   
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the demographic descriptor includes an age of the individual, and   the predetermined condition includes determining whether the age of the individual is less than a predetermined age.   
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the content of the data stream includes a data guide, and   the data guide is modified to remove a title of predetermined content from the data guide when the predetermined condition is satisfied for generating the modified data stream so that the individual is unaware of the predetermined content.   
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein
 the predetermined condition includes the individual being a minor.   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the demographic descriptor includes a gender of the individual,   the content of the data stream includes a first gender-specific product of a first gender,   the predetermined condition includes determining whether the gender of the individual does not correspond to the first gender of the first gender-specific product, and   the content of the data stream is modified to include a second gender-specific product of a second gender different than the first gender when the predetermined condition is satisfied for generating the modified data stream.   
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the predetermined condition includes determining whether the content of the data stream is at least one of inappropriate, unwanted, or offensive to the individual while the individual is perceiving the content of the data stream, and   the content of the data stream is modified by interrupting transmission of the data stream to the environment when the predetermined condition is satisfied.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the content of the data stream is modified by mixing an additional data stream with the data stream when the predetermined condition is satisfied for generating the modified data stream, the additional data stream being displayed along with the data stream. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the data stream includes a plurality of data sub-streams, and   the content of the data stream is modified to at least one of delete, replace, or censor at least one of the plurality of data sub-streams when the predetermined condition is satisfied for generating the modified data stream.   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein
 the predetermined condition includes determining whether the demographic descriptor does not correspond to a genre of the content of the data stream.   
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the content of the data stream is modified to at least one of delete, replace, or censor predetermined content when the predetermined condition is satisfied for generating the modified data stream. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the content of the data stream is modified to include at least one of an advertisement, current events, news, or sports scores. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the data stream includes a digital data stream. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the demographic descriptor is of the individual. 
     
     
         19 . A method for managing transmission of a data stream, the method comprising:
 receiving data representing an input of an individual, the individual being in an environment;   correlating, with a processor, information of the environment with the data representing the input of the individual to determine a demographic descriptor;   correlating, with the processor, the demographic descriptor with a content of the data stream to determine whether a predetermined condition is satisfied;   modifying the content of the data stream when the predetermined condition is satisfied to generate a modified data stream; and   transmitting the modified data stream to a device disposed in the environment when the content of the data stream is modified.   
     
     
         20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having an executable computer program that, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to perform operations comprising:
 receiving data representing an input of an individual, the individual being in an environment;   correlating information of the environment with the data representing the input of the individual to determine a demographic descriptor;   correlating the demographic descriptor with a content of the data stream to determine whether a predetermined condition is satisfied;   modifying the content of the data stream when the predetermined condition is satisfied to generate a modified data stream; and   transmitting the modified data stream to a device disposed in the environment when the content of the data stream is modified.
