Disposable sheath

Abstract

A sheath for a medical instrument may include an elongate body extending from a proximal end to a distal face, and a first hollow lumen extending from a first end proximate the proximal end to a second end proximate the distal face. The sheath may also include a transparent window positioned at the second end of the first lumen to seal the first lumen at the second end. The transparent window may be configured to transmit light therethrough.

         22 . A medical device, comprising:
 a sheath comprising:
 an elongate body extending from a proximal end to a distal face; 
 a first lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal face; and 
 a second lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal face, wherein a proximal portion of the second lumen is separated from a distal portion of the second lumen by an interface, and the proximal portion of the second lumen is sealed from the distal portion of the second lumen; and 
   a proximal portion of a medical instrument positioned within the proximal portion of the second lumen and extending from the proximal end of the elongate body to the interface, wherein the proximal portion of the medical instrument is configured to operably couple with a distal portion of the medical instrument via the interface.   
     
     
         23 . The device of  claim 22 , further comprising the distal portion of the medical instrument operably coupled with the proximal portion of the medical instrument and positioned within the distal portion of the second lumen. 
     
     
         24 . The device of  claim 23 , wherein the distal portion of the medical instrument includes an end effector. 
     
     
         25 . The device of  claim 24 , wherein the second lumen is open at the distal face, and the end effector extends out of the second lumen and distal to the distal face. 
     
     
         26 . The device of  claim 23 , wherein the proximal portion of the medical instrument and the distal portion of the medical instrument are both removeably coupled to the interface. 
     
     
         27 . The device of  claim 22 , wherein the proximal portion of the medical instrument is reusable, and the distal portion of the medical instrument is disposable. 
     
     
         28 . The device of  claim 22 , wherein the interface is an integral part of the sheath. 
     
     
         29 . The device of  claim 22 , wherein the first lumen extends to a second end located distal to the distal face. 
     
     
         30 . A medical device comprising:
 a sheath comprising:
 an elongate body extending from a proximal end to a distal face; 
 a first lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal face; and 
 a second lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal face, wherein a proximal portion of the second lumen is sealed from a distal portion of the second lumen; 
   a proximal portion of a medical instrument positioned within the proximal portion of the second lumen; and   a distal portion of the medical instrument positioned within the distal portion of the second lumen, wherein the distal portion of the medical instrument is removably coupled with the proximal portion of the medical instrument at an interface.   
     
     
         31 . The device of  claim 30 , wherein the interface is an integral part of the sheath and is located between the proximal portion of the second lumen and the distal portion of the second lumen. 
     
     
         32 . The device of  claim 31 , wherein the proximal portion of the medical instrument and the distal portion of the medical instrument are both removeably coupled to the interface. 
     
     
         33 . The device of  claim 30 , wherein the interface is an integral part of one of the proximal portion of the medical instrument or the distal portion of the medical instrument. 
     
     
         34 . The device of  claim 30 , wherein the proximal portion of the medical instrument is reusable, and the distal portion of the medical instrument is disposable. 
     
     
         35 . The device of  claim 30 , wherein the second lumen is open at the distal face. 
     
     
         36 . The device of  claim 30 , wherein the distal portion of the medical instrument includes an end effector. 
     
     
         37 . A medical device comprising:
 a sheath comprising:
 an elongate body extending from a proximal end to a distal face; 
 a first lumen extending from the proximal end to a second end located distal to the distal face; and 
 a second lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal face, wherein the second lumen is open at the distal face, and wherein a proximal portion of the second lumen is sealed from a distal portion of the second lumen; 
   a proximal portion of a medical instrument positioned within the proximal portion of the second lumen; and   a distal portion of the medical instrument positioned within the distal portion of the second lumen, wherein the distal portion of the medical instrument is removably coupled with the proximal portion of the medical instrument at an interface.   
     
     
         38 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the first lumen is sealed at the second end. 
     
     
         39 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the first lumen includes a lens at the second end. 
     
     
         40 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the distal portion of the medical instrument includes an end effector, and the end effector extends out of the second lumen and distal to the distal face. 
     
     
         41 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the proximal portion of the medical instrument is reusable, and the distal portion of the medical instrument is disposable.
