Abstract

Provided are reagents and methods for detecting and distinguishing Neisseria meningitidis from other infectious agents. A kit is provided for detecting and quantifying Neisseria meningitidis in a sample.

1 . A kit for detecting  Neisseria meningitidis  infection comprising:
 a forward primer consisting of sequence SEQ ID NO: 1;   a reverse primer consisting of SEQ ID NO: 2; and   a probe comprising a fluorescent label.   
     
     
         2 . The kit of  claim 1  wherein said probe comprises the sequence SEQ ID NO: 3. 
     
     
         3 . An isolated oligonucleotide comprising the sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 3 and a fluorescent label.
