Abstract
Biomarkers and methods using the biomarkers for the prediction of the recurrence risk of cancer in a patient are provided.

27 . A method of treating prostate cancer in a patient comprising:
(1) obtaining a sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue from said patient; (2) determining the expression of a panel of genes comprising NUSAP1 and UBE2C in said sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue; (3) prognosing the individual as having a decreased likelihood of cancer progression when the expression of the genes NUSAP1 and UBE2C is lower than a threshold index value; and (4) administering to said patient an effective amount of active surveillance based on the prognosis.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein said determining step further comprises determining the expression of one or more housekeeping genes in said sample.
29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein said determining step further comprises normalizing the expression of the genes NUSAP1 and UBE2C using the expression of the housekeeping genes.
30 . A method of treating prostate cancer in a patient comprising:
(1) obtaining a sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue from said patient; (2) determining the expression of a panel of genes comprising NUSAP1 and UBE2C in said sample comprising prostate cancer tumor tissue; (3) prognosing the individual as having an increased likelihood of cancer progression when the expression of the genes NUSAP1 and UBE2C exceed a threshold index value; and (4) administering to said patient an effective amount of one or more of chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery based on the prognosis.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein said determining step further comprises determining the expression of one or more housekeeping genes in said sample.
