Abstract

Estolide compounds and compositions, including two-cycle lubricating compositions comprising at least one estolide compound. Exemplary two-cycle lubricating compositions comprise an estolide base oil and an additive package.

         91 . A two-cycle lubricating composition comprising:
 (i) an estolide base oil having an EN of less than 2, said estolide base oil comprising at least one estolide compound selected from compounds of Formula I:   
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         wherein
 x is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14; 
 y is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14; 
 n is an integer selected from 0 to 8; 
 R 1  is an optionally substituted C 1  to C 22  alkyl that is saturated and unbranched; and 
 R 2  is an optionally substituted C 1  to C 22  alkyl that is saturated and branched,
 wherein each fatty acid chain residue is unsubstituted; 
 
 
         (ii) at least one detergent comprising an overbased calcium detergent; 
         (iii) a polybutene polymer comprising poly-n-butenes and/or polyisobutylenes; 
         (iv) at least one solvent comprising a petroleum solvent or synthetic hydrocarbon solvent; and 
         (v) at least one antioxidant. 
       
     
     
         92 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the estolide base oil has a kinematic viscosity of about 4 to about 10 cSt at 100° C. 
     
     
         93 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the polybutene polymer comprises a number average molecular weight of 300 to 1500. 
     
     
         94 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the at least one solvent exhibits a boiling point not higher than 380° C. at atmospheric pressure. 
     
     
         95 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the at least one antioxidant comprises an aminic antioxidant. 
     
     
         96 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 95 , wherein the aminic antioxidant comprises a diarylamine antioxidant. 
     
     
         97 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein R 2  is selected from C 6  to C 12  alkyl. 
     
     
         98 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the estolide base oil has an EN that is an integer or fraction of an integer selected from 1 to 1.5. 
     
     
         99 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the estolide base oil has an EN less than or equal to 1.6. 
     
     
         100 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 91 , wherein the overbased calcium detergent exhibits a total base number of 150 to 450. 
     
     
         101 . A two-cycle lubricating composition comprising:
 (i) an estolide base oil having an EN of less than 2, and an iodine value of less than 10 cg/g, said estolide base oil comprising at least one estolide compound selected from compounds of Formula I:   
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         wherein
 x is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14; 
 y is, independently for each occurrence, an integer selected from 0 to 14; 
 n is an integer selected from 0 to 8; 
 R 1  is an optionally substituted C 1  to C 22  alkyl that is saturated and unbranched; and 
 R 2  is an optionally substituted C 1  to C 22  alkyl that is saturated and branched,
 wherein each fatty acid chain residue is unsubstituted; 
 
 
         (ii) at least one detergent comprising an overbased calcium detergent; 
         (iii) a polybutene polymer comprising poly-n-butenes and/or polyisobutylenes; 
         (iv) at least one solvent comprising a petroleum solvent or synthetic hydrocarbon solvent; and 
         (v) at least one antioxidant. 
       
     
     
         102 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 101 , wherein the estolide base oil has a kinematic viscosity of about 4 to about 10 cSt at 100° C. 
     
     
         103 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 102 , wherein the polybutene polymer comprises a number average molecular weight of 300 to 1500. 
     
     
         104 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 102 , wherein the at least one solvent exhibits a boiling point not higher than 380° C. at atmospheric pressure. 
     
     
         105 . The two-cycle lubricating composition according to  claim 102 , wherein the at least one antioxidant comprises an aminic antioxidant.
