Moisture control garment

Abstract

A moisture control garment formed of a material that has moisture wicking (hydrophobic) properties joined to another material that has moisture absorbing (hydrophilic) properties. In certain embodiments, the moisture wicking and moisture absorbing materials are of similar thickness, have the same estimated shrinkage percentage, and the fibers of such materials are positioned in the same direction.

         21 . A moisture control garment for covering portions of a wearer's body, comprising at least a first material, and at least a second material, said first material comprised of sections having moisture wicking properties and further having at least some hydrophobic properties, having a body side surface in contact with the wearer's body parts from which it is desired to wick moisture away from such body parts, and an outer side surface, said second material being provided at selective sections of said garment, said second material being made of a material comprised at least in part of sections having hydrophilic properties and providing moisture absorbing properties, said second material having an inner and outer surface, substantially the entire inner surface of the second material being secured to overly a portion of the outer side surface of said first material at each selective section and the outer surface of the second material is entirely exposed to the exterior atmosphere during normal intended wearing of the garment, said second material being strategically accessible for wiping other body parts of the wearer's body not being covered by the garment to absorb moisture from such other body parts upon said wiping, said first and second materials compatible with other in weight and thickness such that during wearing each material improves the effectiveness of the moisture control properties of the other material such that the second material not only absorbs moisture from said other body parts but also promotes wicking in the first material by absorbing moisture away from said first material, and the first material not only wicks moisture from the underlying body parts but also provides wicking to move at least some moisture absorbed by said second material out of said second material and into said first material so as to release said moisture to the environment. 
     
     
         22 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein the second material is joined to the first material at selective locations. 
     
     
         23 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 22 , wherein the selective locations are seams. 
     
     
         24 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 22 , wherein said maximizing the moisture control properties occurs even across the seam. 
     
     
         25 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein the knap of the first material and the knap of the second material are in the same direction. 
     
     
         26 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein the shrinkage difference between the two materials is less than 2%. 
     
     
         27 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein the difference in thickness of the sections of second material and the first material is 0.25 inches or less. 
     
     
         28 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein such selective other sections are wherever the wearer may need to absorb moisture from their body extremities, such as the wearer's hands, arms or face. 
     
     
         29 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein said second material is secured to the underlying first material only at selected places to thereby maintain a layer of air between the second material and the underlying first material to permit the second material to release some of its moisture to said layer of air, before any remaining moisture is wicked away from the overlying second material by the underlying first material. 
     
     
         30 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein said first material and said second material are secured by one of bonding, lamination or adhesive. 
     
     
         31 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein said garment is a pair of shorts, and the sections of said second material are located over at least one of the hips, legs or lower back to be accessible to the wearer's hands. 
     
     
         32 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein the first material is formed substantially of polyester. 
     
     
         33 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein said second material is attached on all sides to said first material so as to be available to the other parts of the body. 
     
     
         34 . The moisture control garment as in  claim 21 , wherein the benefits are derived from treatments integrated directly into the fillers.
