Abstract

A mobile device for a gaming system in accordance with embodiments of the invention operates a controlled entity hybrid game. The controlled entity hybrid game, includes a gambling engine constructed to provide a randomly generated payout of real world credits from at least one wager in a gambling game, a mobile device constructed to execute an entertainment game providing outcomes based upon a player's skillful execution of the entertainment game, and a game world client constructed to manage the entertainment game and communicate, to the gambling game, a gameplay gambling event occurrence based upon a player's instruction of a controlled entity to consume an enabling element of the entertainment game that triggers a wager in the gambling game.

What is claimed: 
     
         1 . A mobile device for a gaming system, comprising:
 a processor; and
 a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having processor-executable instructions that when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: 
 provide by the mobile device, an entertainment game for a controlled entity hybrid game wherein the mobile device is configured to:
 execute the entertainment game; 
 transmit a request for coupling the entertainment game to a game world client; 
 receive an approval of the mobile device to connect to the game world client; 
 couple by the mobile device the entertainment game to the game world client; 
 determine an action taken by a game world character; 
 communicate to the game world client the action taken by the game world character; 
 receive from the game world game an adjustment of the game control parameters; 
 generate a visual display of the adjustment of the game control parameters; and 
 execute the entertainment game based upon actions taken by the game world character instructed by the player using the adjusted game control parameters; 
 
   the game world client operatively connecting a gambling engine and the mobile device, wherein the game world client is constructed to:
 determine a gameplay gambling event occurrence based on the action taken by the game world character; 
 generate the trigger of a wager of real world credit based on the gameplay gambling event occurrence; 
 communicate to the gambling engine the trigger; 
 receive from the gambling engine the gambling outcome; 
 determine the adjustment of the game control parameters using the gambling outcome; and 
 communicate to the mobile device the adjusted game control parameters; and 
   a gambling engine constructed to
 determine a gambling outcome for the wager of real world credit in response to the trigger using a random number generator; and 
 communicate to the game world client the gambling outcome. 
   
     
     
         2 . The mobile device of  claim 1 , wherein the game control parameters include a change in the attribute of the game world character. 
     
     
         3 . The mobile device of  claim 1 , wherein the game control parameters include a change the amount of an enabling element by incrementing the amount of the enabling element on a positive gambling outcome. 
     
     
         4 . The mobile device of  claim 1 , wherein the game control parameters include a change the amount of an enabling element by incrementing the amount on a negative gambling outcome. 
     
     
         5 . The mobile device of  claim 1 , wherein the game world client determines an amount of the real world credit of the wager of real world credit on the basis of another element of the entertainment game. 
     
     
         6 . The mobile device of  claim 1 ,
 wherein the game world client and the gambling engine are constructed from separate processing apparatuses; and   the communication link between the game world client and the gambling engine includes a network.   
     
     
         7 . The mobile device of  claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is a smartphone. 
     
     
         8 . The mobile device of claim  9 , wherein the mobile device is a tablet computer.
