Abstract

The disclosure relates to enhancing exercise through augmented reality. In particular, the disclosure describes monitoring a user's performance and generating a virtual representation of that user's performance to be displayed during a future exercise routine to motivate the user to improve performance during their next workout.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method comprising:
 receiving athletic performance data corresponding to a user's workout; generating a first avatar performance, the generated first avatar performance based at least in part on the received athletic performance data; storing the generated first avatar performance; generating a second avatar performance based on the user's current workout performance; and simultaneously displaying the stored first avatar performance adjacent the second avatar performance.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 comparing the generated first avatar performance with the second avatar performance; generating results of the compared first avatar performance and the second avatar performance; and displaying the generated results of the first avatar performance and the second avatar performance.

         3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 displaying an indication of a level of progress towards a goal of the user.

         4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein a relative position of the first avatar performance to a second avatar performance represents the indication of the level of progress towards the goal.

         5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the athletic performance data is received from a user device comprising an athletic performance monitoring device.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first avatar performance comprises a first virtual shadow, the first virtual shadow representing a past workout performance for the user.

         7 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising:
 modifying the appearance of the second avatar performance based on the received athletic performance data.

         8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the appearance of the second avatar includes modifying a size of the second avatar.

         9 . A method comprising:
 receiving athletic performance data from a plurality of users performing a similar athletic event; generating a plurality of avatar performances based on the received athletic data from the plurality of users; simultaneously displaying the generated plurality of avatar performances; comparing the generated plurality of avatar performances; generating results of the compared plurality of avatar performances; and displaying the generated results of the compared plurality of avatar performances.

         10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
 displaying topographical map data as a background to indicate the relative location of the generated avatar performances to each other.

         11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the displayed positions of the plurality of avatar performances relative to each other represent progress towards an athletic goal.

         12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the athletic performance data is received from a plurality of athletic performance monitoring devices.

         13 . An apparatus comprising:
 a processor; and memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to:
 receive athletic performance data corresponding to a user's workout;
 generate a first avatar performance, the generated first avatar performance based at least in part on the received athletic performance data;
 store the generated first avatar performance;
 generate a second avatar performance based on the user's current workout performance; and
 simultaneously display the stored first avatar performance adjacent the second avatar performance.

         14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:
 compare the generated first avatar performance with the second avatar performance; generate results of the compared first avatar performance and the second avatar performance; and display the generated results of the first avatar performance and the second avatar performance.

         15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:
 modify the appearance of the first avatar and second avatar based on the generated results.

         16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the modification of the appearance of the first avatar and second avatar comprises changing the displayed position of the first avatar and the second avatar.

         17 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the athletic performance data is received from a user device comprising an athletic performance monitoring device.

         18 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the first avatar performance comprises a first virtual shadow, the first virtual shadow representing a past workout performance for the user.

         19 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:
 display an indication of a level of progress towards a goal of the user.
