Abstract

This disclosure is related to techniques for presenting therapy factors related to medical device therapy in a manner that allows a user, such as a patient or a clinician, to receive, comprehend and evaluate information relating to therapy delivered by the medical device efficiently. In one aspect, a method comprises obtaining a data set corresponding to a therapy factor associated with delivery of a medical therapy to a patient with a medical system including an implantable medical device, receiving a user selection associated with a subset of the data set, the subset of the data set including less than all the information relating to the therapy factor in the data set, and presenting a representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factor on a display of a programmer.

1 . A programmer for an implantable medical device, the programmer comprising:
 a user interface;   a telemetry circuit configured to transfer data to and from the implantable medical device (IMD);   a display; and   a processor, wherein the processor is configured to:
 obtain a data set recorded over time during the delivery of a medical therapy, the data set corresponding to a plurality of therapy factors associated with delivery of the medical therapy to a patient with the IMD; 
 receive a user selection via the user interface, wherein the user selection is an indication of a subset of the data set, the subset of the data set including less than all the information relating to the therapy factors in the data set; and 
 in response to the user selection, present a representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors on the display to facilitate user evaluation of the medical therapy based on the therapy factors, and 
   wherein presenting the representation of the therapy factors corresponding to the subset of the data set comprises presenting representations, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of two or more of the therapy factors simultaneously along a common timeline on the display of the programmer.   
     
     
         2 . The programmer of  claim 1 , wherein the subset of the data set includes data from portions of the data set that are recorded non-sequentially to each other. 
     
     
         3 . The programmer of  claim 1 , wherein the user selection includes a selection of one of a group consisting of:
 a daily time period;   a therapeutic element of the IMD;   a therapy setting associated with delivering a portion of the medical therapy to the patient with the IMD;   a patient activity level;   a patient posture;   a patient posture and activity level;   a patient mobility;   a patient record of therapy outcome;   an objective record of therapy outcome;   an event recorded during the delivery of the medical therapy to the patient with the IMD; and   a recharge status of the IMD.   
     
     
         4 . The programmer of  claim 3 , wherein the user selection includes a selection of two or more of the group. 
     
     
         5 . The programmer of  claim 1 , wherein the therapy factors are selected from a group consisting of:
 an objective record of the medical therapy delivered to the patient,   a record of patient posture;   a record of a battery charge history of a battery of the IMD;   a subjective record of pain experienced by the patient;   an objective record of one or more physiological conditions of the patient; and   a record representative of electrode impedances for electrodes of medical leads associated with the IMD.   
     
     
         6 . The programmer of  claim 1 , further comprising a computer-readable storage medium that stores the data set. 
     
     
         7 . The programmer of  claim 1 , wherein the medical therapy includes electrical stimulation therapy and the IMD includes a neurostimulator. 
     
     
         8 . The programmer of  claim 5 , wherein the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors comprises a representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the objective record of the one or more physiological conditions of the patient, and
 wherein the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the objective record of the one or more physiological conditions of the patient includes a representation of one or more of a set consisting of:   a list of stimulation programs along the common timeline;   a series of graphical representations of the medical leads and active electrodes corresponding to the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline;   indications of stimulation activity along the common timeline;   indications of stimulation programs from two or more program slots of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline;   indications of amplitudes of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline; and   indications of the prevalence of manual patient adjustments of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline.   
     
     
         9 . A system comprising:
 an implantable medical device (IMD) configured to deliver a medical therapy to a patient;   a user interface;   a telemetry circuit configured to transfer data to and from the IMD;   a display; and   a programmer comprising a processor, wherein the processor is configured to:
 obtain a data set recorded over time during the delivery of a medical therapy, the data set corresponding to a plurality of therapy factors associated with delivery of the medical therapy to a patient with the IMD; 
 receive a user selection via the user interface, wherein the user selection is an indication of a subset of the data set, the subset of the data set including less than all the information relating to the therapy factors in the data set; and 
 in response to the user selection, present a representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors on the display to facilitate user evaluation of the medical therapy based on the therapy factors, 
 wherein presenting the representation of the therapy factors corresponding to the subset of the data set comprises presenting representations, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of two or more of the therapy factors simultaneously along a common timeline on the display of the programmer. 
   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the subset of the data set includes data from portions of the data set that are recorded non-sequentially to each other. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the user selection includes a selection of one of a group consisting of:
 a daily time period;   a therapeutic element of the IMD;   a therapy setting associated with delivering a portion of the medical therapy to the patient with the IMD;   a patient activity level;   a patient posture;   a patient posture and activity level;   a patient mobility;   a patient record of therapy outcome;   an objective record of therapy outcome;   an event recorded during the delivery of the medical therapy to the patient with the IMD; and   a recharge status of the IMB.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the user selection includes a selection of two or more of the group. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the therapy factors are selected from a group consisting of:
 an objective record of the medical therapy delivered to the patient, a record of patient posture;   a record of a battery charge history of a battery of the IMB;   a subjective record of pain experienced by the patient;   an objective record of one or more physiological conditions of the patient; and   a record representative of electrode impedances for electrodes of medical leads associated with the IMD.   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the IMD comprises a computer-readable storage medium that stores the data set. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the medical therapy includes electrical stimulation therapy and the IMD includes a neurostimulator. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors comprises a representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the objective record of the one or more physiological conditions of the patient, and
 wherein the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the objective record of the one or more physiological conditions of the patient includes a representation of one or more of a set consisting of:   a list of stimulation programs along the common timeline;   a series of graphical representations of the medical leads and active electrodes corresponding to the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline;   indications of stimulation activity along the common timeline;   indications of stimulation programs from two or more program slots of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline;   indications of amplitudes of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline; and   indications of the prevalence of manual patient adjustments of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline.   
     
     
         17 . A programmer for an implantable medical device, the programmer comprising:
 means for obtaining a data set recorded over time during the delivery of a medical therapy, the data set corresponding to a plurality of therapy factors associated with delivery of the medical therapy to a patient with a medical system including an implantable medical device (IMD);   means for receiving a user selection of a subset of the data set, the subset of the data set including less than all information relating to the therapy factors in the data set; and   means for presenting, in response to the user selection, a representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors on a display of the programmer to facilitate user evaluation of the medical therapy based on the therapy factors,   wherein the means for presenting the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors comprises means for presenting representations, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of two or more of the therapy factors simultaneously along a common timeline on the display of the programmer.   
     
     
         18 . The programmer of  claim 17 , wherein the subset of the data set includes data from portions of the data set that are recorded non-sequentially to each other. 
     
     
         19 . The programmer of  claim 17 , wherein the user selection includes a selection of one of a group consisting of:
 a daily time period;   a therapeutic element in the medical system;   a therapy setting associated with delivering a portion of the medical therapy to the patient with the medical system;   a patient activity level;   a patient posture;   a patient posture and activity level;   a patient mobility;   a patient record of therapy outcome;   an objective record of therapy outcome;   an event recorded during the delivery of the medical therapy to the patient with the medical system; and   a recharge status of the IMD.   
     
     
         20 . The programmer of  claim 19 , wherein the user selection includes a selection of two or more of the group. 
     
     
         21 . The programmer of  claim 17 ,
 wherein the medical therapy includes electrical stimulation therapy and the medical system includes a neurostimulator, and   wherein the two or more of the therapy factors includes an objective record of the electrical stimulation therapy delivered to the patient and one or more of a group consisting of:
 a record of patient posture; 
 a record of a battery charge history of a battery of the neurostimulator; 
 a subjective record of pain experienced by the patient; 
 an objective record of one or more physiological conditions of the patient; and 
 a record representative of electrode impedances for electrodes of medical leads associated with the neurostimulator. 
   
     
     
         22 . The programmer of  claim 17 , further comprising a computer-readable storage medium that stores the data set. 
     
     
         23 . The programmer of  claim 17 , wherein the medical therapy includes electrical stimulation therapy and the IMD includes a neurostimulator.

The programmer of  claim 17 , wherein the means for presenting the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the therapy factors comprises means for presenting the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the objective record of the one or more physiological conditions of the patient, and
 wherein the means for presenting the representation, corresponding to the subset of the data set, of the objective record of the one or more physiological conditions of the patient includes means for presenting one or more of a set consisting of:   a list of stimulation programs along the common timeline;   a series of graphical representations of the medical leads and active electrodes corresponding to the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline;   indications of stimulation activity along the common timeline;   indications of stimulation programs from two or more program slots of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline;   indications of amplitudes of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline; and   indications of the prevalence of manual patient adjustments of the electrical stimulation therapy along the common timeline.
