Abstract

Various devices and systems may benefit from enhanced reading of optical media. For example, certain computer systems may benefit from array reading of optical media. An apparatus may include, for example, an array of optical sensors. The array of optical sensors may be configured to read a plurality of parallel linear strips of data from an optical medium.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 13 . (canceled)

14 . A method for reading an optical medium, wherein the optical medium has a fixed form, the method comprising:
scanning the optical medium with an optical reader, wherein the scanning comprises scanning at least a portion of a linear track of data.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
providing data from the optical medium to an output of the optical reader.

16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
multiplexing the data from a plurality of optical sensors of the optical reader.

17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the scanning is performed during at least one of insertion of the optical medium into an enclosure, or extraction of the optical medium out of the enclosure.

18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the scanning comprises scanning the optical medium during a linear translation of the optical medium.

19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the scanning comprises scanning a first plurality of rows of tracks during a first time period and scanning a second plurality of rows of tracks during a second time period, wherein the second plurality of rows of tracks is different from the first plurality of rows of tracks.

20 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
shifting the optical medium perpendicular to a direction of entrance into an optical reader after entrance of the optical medium into the drive.

21 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the entire optical medium is read in a single pass.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the entire optical medium is read in a single pass as the medium enters an enclosure.

23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the entire optical medium is read in a single pass as the medium exits an enclosure.

24 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising:
using a tray to move the medium.
