Abstract

The present invention relates to an antimicrobial topical composition and process for making such composition. The composition comprises of ionic silver, silver nanoparticles, and oxygen, combined within a gel medium and applied topically. The composition optimizes the ionic silver and silver nanoparticle ratio providing for sufficient ionic silver to be delivered as an immediate antimicrobial agent, and sufficient nanoparticle silver to provide time release for conversion to silver ions for continuing antimicrobial effectiveness.

1 . An antimicrobial product made by the process comprising the steps:
 a. Obtaining a water-based solution of silver nanoparticles containing a high concentration of nanosilver particles that is more than 15% of the silver in a solution;   b. Adding a gellating agent to the water-based solution of silver nanoparticles to create a gel;   c. Mixing hydrogen peroxide into the gel and then isolating the gel compound; and   d. Allowing ion silver particles to ionize in the presence of the hydrogen peroxide and thereby releasing oxygen gas into the gel compound for several hours to several days depending on the silver concentrations and ratios and on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide used.   
     
     
         2 . A method of making antimicrobial topical composition comprising of:
 a. Obtaining a water-based solution of silver nanoparticles containing a high concentration of nanosilver particles that is more than 15% of the silver in a solution;   b. Adding a gellating agent to the water-based solution of silver nanoparticles to create a gel;   c. Mixing hydrogen peroxide into the gel and then isolating the gel compound; and   d. Allowing ion silver particles to ionize in the presence of the hydrogen peroxide and thereby releasing oxygen gas into the gel compound for several hours to several days depending on the silver concentrations and ratios and on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide used.   
     
     
         3 . A method of treating or preventing a microbial infection comprising: a) providing an effective amount of silver ion to silver nanoparticle ratio and b) administering the effective amount of the composition to the subject.
