Moving keys of an arrangement of keys
Abstract
In some examples, a contact with a touch sensitive display at a first location corresponding to a first key of an arrangement of keys according to a first layout displayed by the touch sensitive display is detected, where each key of the arrangement of keys is activatable to enter a respective different character into a computing device. The first key of the arrangement of keys displayed by the touch sensitive display is moved in accordance with movement of the contact to a second location. In response to the first key being moved to the second location, a second key of the arrangement of keys is moved to a different location responsive to the movement of the contact, the moving of the first key and the second key changing a layout of the arrangement of keys from the first layout to a second layout.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A device comprising:
a touch sensitive display; a processor coupled to the touch sensitive display; and a storage medium coupled to the processor, the storage medium storing instructions that are executable on the processor to:
detect a contact with the touch sensitive display at a first location corresponding to a first key of an arrangement of keys according to a first layout displayed by the touch sensitive display, each key of the arrangement of keys activatable to enter a respective different character;
move the first key of the arrangement of keys displayed by the touch sensitive display in accordance with movement of the contact to a second location; and
in response to the first key being moved to the second location, move a second key of the arrangement of keys to a different location according to the movement of the contact, the moving of the first key and the second key changing a layout of the arrangement of keys from the first layout to a second layout.
2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein detecting the contact comprises determining whether the contact lasts longer than a predetermined period of time, wherein the contact lasting longer than the predetermined period of time indicates that changing of the layout of the arrangement of keys is to occur, and wherein the contact not lasting longer than the predetermined period of time indicates that a character corresponding to the first key is to be entered.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the movement of the contact to the second location is along an undefined path.
4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the moving of the second key comprises moving the second key to a position adjacent the first key after the first key has been moved to the second location.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the arrangement of keys is part of a keyboard displayed by the touch sensitive display.
6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the arrangement of keys is part of a numeric keypad displayed by the touch sensitive display.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are executable on the processor to:
responsive to detecting the contact, display a visual cue of a predefined path for moving the first key from the first location to the second location.
8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first location corresponds to first corner of the arrangement of keys, and the second location corresponds to a second, different corner the arrangement of keys.
9 . A method, comprising:
detecting a contact with a touch sensitive display at a first location corresponding to a first key of an arrangement of keys according to a first layout displayed by the touch sensitive display, each key of the arrangement of keys activatable to enter a respective different character into a computing device; moving the first key of the arrangement of keys displayed by the touch sensitive display in accordance with movement of the contact to a second location; and in response to the first key being moved to the second location, moving a second key of the arrangement of keys to a different location responsive to the movement of the contact, the moving of the first key and the second key changing a layout of the arrangement of keys from the first layout to a second layout.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein detecting the contact comprises determining whether the contact lasts longer than a predetermined period of time, wherein the contact lasting longer than the predetermined period of time indicates that changing of the layout of the arrangement of keys is to occur, and wherein the contact not lasting longer than the predetermined period of time indicates that a character corresponding to the first key is to be entered.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the moving of the first key and the moving of the second key are performed in response to determining that the contact lasts longer than the predetermined period of time.
12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
detecting a second contact with the first key that does not last longer than the predetermined period of time; and in response to detecting the second contact, entering a character corresponding to the first key into the computing device.
13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the movement of the contact is along an undefined path.
14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the moving of the first key comprises moving the first key to a corner location on the arrangement of keys.
15 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
responsive to detecting the contact, displaying a visual cue a predefined path for moving the first key from the first location to the second location.
16 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the moving of the second key comprises moving the second key adjacent the first key.
17 . An article of manufacture comprising a non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to:
detect a contact with a touch sensitive display at a first location corresponding to a first key of an arrangement of keys according to a first layout displayed by the touch sensitive display, each key of the arrangement of keys activatable to enter a respective different character into a computing device; move the first key of the arrangement of keys displayed by the touch sensitive display in accordance with movement of the contact to a second location; and in response to the first key being moved to the second location, move a second key of the arrangement of keys to a side of the first key according to the movement of the contact, the moving of the first key and the second key changing a layout of the arrangement of keys from the first layout to a second layout.
18 . The article of manufacture of claim 17 , wherein the arrangement of keys is part of a keyboard displayed by the touch sensitive display.
19 . The article of manufacture of claim 17 , wherein to cause the computing device to detect the contact with the touch sensitive display at the first location, the instructions are to further cause the computing device to detect the contact for a period of time, wherein the period of time is greater than two seconds.
20 . The article of manufacture of claim 17 , wherein the instructions when executed cause the computing device to further:
responsive to detecting the contact, displaying a visual cue a predefined path for moving the first key from the first location to the second location.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
