Wave sole for a golf club head
Abstract
A golf club head of the wood-type, including a body having a ball-striking face and a sole is disclosed. The sole can include a wave slot for adding additional weight to the golf club head. The wave slot can include a front sidewall, a rear sidewall, and at least two waves. The waves can be positioned between the front and rear sidewalls, and can each include a valley portion at the lowest point of the wave such that the valley portion does not protrude below the sole. The wave slot can also have two, three, or more waves, which can have heights that decrease as you move away from the ball-striking face.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A wood-type golf club head comprising:
a body defining an interior cavity and including a ball-striking face and a sole; a wave slot located on the sole, having a substantially consistent wall thickness, and comprising a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and at least two waves; wherein the first sidewall extends substantially in a first generally upward direction and is located proximate the ball-striking face, and the second sidewall extends substantially in a second generally upward direction and is located proximate the sole; wherein each wave of the at least two waves is positioned between the first and second sidewalls, comprises a valley portion; wherein the valley portion of each wave does not protrude below the sole; wherein the at least two waves comprises a first wave adjacent to the first sidewall and having a first height, and a second wave adjacent to the first wave and having a second height; and wherein the first height is greater than the second height.
2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second wave is located proximate the second sidewall.
3 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein a height of first sidewall is greater than a height of the second sidewall.
4 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the wave slot comprises three waves.
5 . The golf club head of claim 4 , wherein the third wave of the three waves is located adjacent to the second sidewall and has a third height that is less than the first height and the second height.
6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , further comprising a damper attached to the wave slot portion of the golf club head, and disposed such that it does not protrude below the sole.
7 . The golf club head of claim 6 , wherein the damper comprises one or more of tungsten, plastic, aluminum, and steel.
8 . The golf club head of claim 6 , wherein the damper is attached by one or more of soldering, welding, gluing, clipping, and riveting.
9 . A wood-type golf club head comprising:
a body defining an interior cavity and including a ball-striking face and a sole; a wave slot located on the sole, having a substantially consistent wall thickness, and comprising at least two waves; wherein each wave comprises a peak portion, a valley portion, and has a height; wherein the valley portion of each wave does not protrude below the sole; and wherein the height of a first wave proximate the ball-striking face is greater than the height of a second wave located further from the ball-striking face.
10 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the peak portion of the first wave extends further from the sole in a generally upward direction than the peak portion of the second wave.
11 . The golf club head of claim 9 , wherein the wave slot comprises three waves.
12 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the third wave of the three waves is located further from the ball-striking face than the second wave, and wherein the height of the third wave is less than the height of the second wave.
13 . The golf club head of claim 9 , further comprising a damper attached to the wave slot portion of the golf club head.
14 . The golf club head of claim 13 , wherein the damper comprises tungsten, plastic, aluminum, or steel.
15 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein the damper is attached by one or more of soldering, welding, gluing, clipping, and riveting.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
