Claims
Abstract
The invention relates to a coating formulation for preparing medical coating, which coating formulation comprises (a) at least one multifunctional polymerizable compound according to a formula (I), wherein G is a residue of a polyfunctional compound having at least n functional groups, wherein each R 1 and each R 2 independently represents hydrogen or a group selected from substituted and unsubstituted hydrocarbons which optionally contain one or more heteroatoms, and wherein n is an integer having a value of at least 2; and (b) at least one inhibitor.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of forming on a medical device or component a hydrophilic medical coating, the method comprising:
(I) applying to at least one surface of the medical device or component a coating formulation which comprises:
(a) at least one multifunctional polymerizable compound according to formula (1):
wherein G is a polymer comprising at least one polyethylene glycol block and is a residue of a hydrophilic polyfunctional compound having at least n functional groups; wherein each R 1 and each R 2 independently represents hydrogen, wherein n is an integer having a value of 2-8, and wherein the multifunctional polymerizable compound according to formula (1) has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 500 to 10,000 g/mol; and
(b) at least one free-radical photo-initiator;
(II) allowing the coating formulation to cure by exposing, the formulation to electromagnetic radiation thereby activating the free-radical photo-initiator; and
(III) obtaining a hydrophilic medical coating on the at least one surface of the medical device or component, the hydrophilic medical coating having a thickness of from 0.1-200 μm.
2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the multifunctional polymerizable compound according to formula (1) has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 500 g/mol to 6000 g/mol or less.
3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the multifunctional polyrnerizable compound according to formula (I) has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 500 g/mol to 2000 g/mol.
4 . The method according to claim I, the coating formulation further comprising a functional. polymer (c).

The method according to claim 4 , wherein the functional polymer (c) is a hydrophilic polymer chosen from the group consisting of poly(lactams), polyurethanes, homo-and copolymers of acrylic and methacrylic acid, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylethers, maleic anhydride based copolymers, polyesters, vinylamines, polyethylene imines, polyethyleneoxides, poly(carboxylic acids), polyamides, polyanhydrides, polyphosphazenes, cellulosics, heparin, dextran, polypeptides, polysacharrides, and mixtures thereof.

The method according to claim 4 , wherein the functional polymer (c) is a polyelectrolyte chosen from the group consisting of polyacrylamide-co-acrylic acid sodium salt, polyacrylic acid sodium salt, polymethaerylic acid sodium salt, polyacrylamido-2-methyl-i-propanesulfonic acid sodium salt, poly(4-styrene sulfonic acid) sodium salt, polyacrylamide-co-dialkyl ammonium chloride), quaternized poly[bis-(2-ehloroethyl)ether-alt-1,3-bis[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]urea] and poly(diallyidimethylammonium chloride), polyallylammonium phosphate, poly(diallylditnethylarnmonium chloride), poly(sodium trimethyleneoxyethylene sulfonate), poly(dimethyldodecyl(2-acrylainidoethyl) ammonium bromide), poly(2-N methylpyridiniumethylene iodine), polyvinylsulfonic acids, salts of poly(vinyl)pyridines, polyethyleneimines, and polylysines, and mixtures thereof.
7 . The method according, to claim 4 , wherein the functional polymer (c) is polyvinylpyrrolidone.
8 . The method according to claim 1 , the coating formulation further comprising a polar solvent.
9 . The method to claim 1 , wherein the medical device or component comprises a catheter, medical tubing, guidewire, a stent or a membrane.

The method according to claim 1 , further comprising the step of forming a lubricious medical coating by wetting the hydrophilic medical coating by applying a wetting fluid, the wetting fluid comprising an ionic compound, the ionic compound comprising a polyelectrolyte or a low molecular weight salt.
11 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein n is 2 or 3.
12 . The method according to claim 11 , the coating formulation further comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone.
13 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein the multifunctional polymerizable compound according to formula (1) has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 500 g/mol to 6000 g/mol.
14 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the coating formulation is prepared 41 days or more prior to applying the coating formulation to at least one surface of the medical device or component.
15 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising the step of preparing a coating formulation 41 days or more prior to applying the coating formulation to at least one surface of the medical device or component.
16 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the coating formulation is prepared 41 days or more prior to applying the coating formulation to at least one surface of the medical device or component.
17 . The method according to claim 13 , further comprising the step of preparing a coating formulation 41 days or more prior to applying the coating formulation to at least one surface of the medical device or component.
18 . A medical device or component comprising a hydrophilic medical coating formed by the method according to claim 1 .
19 . A medical device or component comprising a hydrophilic medical coating formed by the method according to claim 14 .
