Universal Toilet Cistern

Abstract

A universal toilet cistern allows for the water supply inlet to be installed on either the right or left side of the tank. This is accomplished in various ways including, but not limited to, using punch-out supply inlet elements; making cisterns with multiple inlet openings that can be sealed during installation; utilizing multiple supply inlet valves; implementing a sliding seal; and/or using a reversible insert. The universal cistern is not only more efficient and convenient in that less plumping can be used, but it also improves the aesthetics of the installed product.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A universal toilet cistern comprising:
 a. a body;   b. a right supply inlet element;   c. a left supply inlet element; and   d. a discharge outlet.   
     
     
         2 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 1  wherein said left supply inlet element and said right supply inlet element are configured to be removable to create a left inlet opening and a right inlet opening respectively. 
     
     
         3 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 2  wherein said left supply inlet element and said right supply inlet element are configured to be pushed out. 
     
     
         4 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 1  wherein said right supply inlet element is rubber. 
     
     
         5 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 1  wherein said right supply inlet element is porcelain. 
     
     
         6 . A universal toilet cistern comprising:
 a. a body;   b. a right inlet opening;   c. a left inlet opening; and   d. a discharge outlet.   
     
     
         7 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 6  further comprising:
 e. a cap, wherein said cap is configured to seal at least one of said inlet openings. 
 
     
     
         8 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 6  further comprising:
 e. a washer, wherein said washer is configured to seal at least one of said inlet openings; 
 f. a bolt; and 
 g. a nut. 
 
     
     
         9 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 8  further comprising:
 h. a cap. 
 
     
     
         10 . A universal toilet cistern comprising:
 a. a body;   b. a reversible insert;   c. an insert seal; and   d. a discharge outlet.   
     
     
         11 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 10  wherein said reversible insert comprises:
 i. a fitting surround a through-hole; and 
 ii. an insert body, wherein said insert body can be rotated in said body of said toilet cistern. 
 
     
     
         12 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 10  wherein said reversible insert is porcelain. 
     
     
         13 . The universal toilet cistern of  claim 10  wherein said insert seal is rubber.
