Abstract

A hair brush with a styling/cleaning element for removing entwined hair from the brush before or after use. The styling/cleaning element of the brush includes a styling/cleaning plate(s) with opening through which the bristles protrude. When the styling/cleaning plate is expanded, the styling/cleaning plate pushes any hairs entwined in the bristles to the tips of the bristles where they are removed. The brush also has a post mechanism, which allows for the adjustment of the styling/cleaning element to various intermediary positions, effectively adjusting the length of the bristles for use of the brush. A hair brush with heatable styling/cleaning plate(s) that when heated with externally generated hot air change colour/appearance of styling/cleaning plate(s) which further indicates hair brush readiness for use to user.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A self-cleaning heatable hair styling brush comprising, in combination:
a brushing element including a body, a plurality of bristles extending radially outward from a central axis of the body, the plurality of bristles being supported by the body and a handle supported by the body; and a styling/cleaning element substantially surrounding the body of the brushing element, the styling/cleaning element including a plurality of styling/cleaning plates, each styling/cleaning plate having a plurality of openings positioned relative to the bristles, a plate lifter/rib arms and a sleeve/spacer which supports the plurality of styling/cleaning plates, and is disposed within the body of the brushing element; and a styling/cleaning element including at least one styling/cleaning plate with a plurality of openings positioned relative to the bristles that when heated with externally generated heat exhibit a colour change to further indicate readiness for use; and a control element engaged with the plate lifter of the styling/cleaning element which allows for the extraction of the control element at the end of the handle, wherein the plate lifter, spacer, and control element are configured and adapted to expand the plurality of styling/cleaning plates radially outward from the body of the brushing element to facilitate removal of hairs therefrom when the control element is moved from a brushing position to a styling/cleaning position, and wherein the plate lifter, spacer, and control element are configured and adapted to contract the plurality of styling/cleaning plates radially inward toward the body of the brushing element to facilitate hair brushing when the control element is moved from the styling/cleaning position to the brushing position.

2 . The hair brush, according to claim 1 , wherein the styling/cleaning element is moveable with respect to the brushing element between a brushing position and a styling/cleaning position, in the brushing position the styling/cleaning plate(s) is/are flush with the brushing element such that the plurality of bristles protrude through the plurality of openings in the styling/cleaning plate(s).

3 . The hair brush, according to claim 2 , wherein in the styling/cleaning position the styling/cleaning plate(s) is/are situated about the tips of the bristles (maximum styling/cleaning position).

4 . The hair brush, according to claim 1 , wherein the styling/cleaning element is movable with respect to the brushing element between a brushing position and a styling/cleaning position, wherein the styling/cleaning element is movable responsive to an external force applied to the control element.

5 . The hair brush, according to claim 4 , wherein the styling/cleaning element is movable responsive to release of the external force applied to the control element.

6 . The hair brush, according to claim 2 , further comprising: a locking element within the control element and the styling/cleaning element to selectively lock the styling/cleaning element in at least one intermediate position between the brushing position and the styling/cleaning position producing different effective length of bristles at each intermediate position.

7 . The hair brush, according to claim 2 , further comprising: means for locking the control element relative to the styling/cleaning element to selectively maintain at least one intermediate position so that the styling/cleaning element is moveable between the intermediate position and the styling/cleaning position upon operation of the control element.

8 . The hair brush, according to claim 7 , further comprising: means for returning the styling/cleaning element to a locked intermediate position after the control element has been operated to the maximum styling/cleaning position.

9 . The hair brush, according to claim 1 , where in the plurality of bristles are disposed in staggered rows.

10 . A brush, comprising: a handle portion and a bristle head portion arranged in-line along a long direction of said brush; a plurality of bristles on said bristle head portion projecting outwardly in a bristle direction generally orthogonal to said long direction of said brush; said bristles having at least a first use-length available for brushing during a use of said brush; and means for removing external hair from said bristles following said use, wherein said means for removing includes at least a first styling/cleaning element operable outwardly along said bristle direction, thereby minimizing a risk of bristle damage, wherein the styling/cleaning element includes a plurality of styling/cleaning plates configured and adapted to move apart from one another while moving outward from the bristle head portion of the brush to facilitate removal of hair from the bristles.

11 . A brush, according to claim 10 , further comprising: means for selecting between said first use-length and at least a second use-length of at least one of said plurality of bristles during said use, whereby at least one alternate bristle use-length is available.

12 . A brush, according to claim 11 , further comprising: lock means for releasably and lockably selecting between at least said first and said second use-length of said bristles during a use, thereby increasing a convenience of said brush.

13 . A brush, according to claim 10 , further comprising: spring assembly means for elastically urging said at least first styling/cleaning element inwardly along said bristle direction, thereby speeding a return of said at least first styling/cleaning element to a use position following a styling/cleaning of said brush.

14 . A brush, according to claim 12 , further comprising: sleeve/spacer assembly means for elastically urging said at least first styling/cleaning element inwardly along said bristle direction; a control element operable in both said lock means for releasably and lockably selecting and said sleeve/spacer means; said control element operable along said long direction of said brush; and said control element enabling a ready positioning of said at least first styling/cleaning element to establish at least said first and said second use-lengths of said bristles.

15 . A method for cleaning a hair brush, comprising the steps of: selecting a brush assembly having a handle portion and a bristle head portion arranged generally aligned along a long direction of said hair brush; said brush assembly wherein: said bristle head portion includes a plurality of bristles on said bristle head portion projecting radially outwardly from the bristle head portion in a bristle direction generally orthogonal to said long direction of said brush; said bristles having at least a first use-length available for brushing during a use of said brush; said brush assembly including means for removing external hair from said bristles following said use; said means for removing including a plurality of styling/cleaning elements operable outwardly along said bristle direction, thereby minimizing a risk of bristle damage and a control element projecting from said handle portion slidable along said long direction to drive said first styling/cleaning element outwardly, wherein the styling/cleaning elements and the control element are configured and adapted to expand the plurality of styling/cleaning elements radially outward from the bristle head portion of the brush assembly to facilitate removal of hairs therefrom when the control element is moved from a first position to a second position, and wherein the styling/cleaning elements and control element are configured and adapted to contract the plurality of styling/cleaning elements radially inward toward the bristle head portion of the brush assembly to facilitate hair brushing when the control element is moved from the second position to the first position; holding said handle portion; and sliding said control element along said long direction and moving said first cleaning element outwardly along said styling/cleaning direction of said hair brush to remove said external hair from said bristles.

16 . The hair brush, according to claim 1 , wherein the styling/cleaning element is heatable with respect to the brushing element between a brushing position and a styling/cleaning position, whereas the styling/cleaning element is heated with externally generated hot air heat, which activates colour changing agent within styling/cleaning element to indicate readiness for styling use.
