Abstract

A method for manufacturing a housing of a portable electronic device includes the following blocks. A plate glass is provided. The plate glass is cut. The plate glass includes a main body with curved corners and a plurality of side edges. Each side edge is connected with two curved corners. A glass member is formed by a thermal bending process. The side edges are bent from the main body, and perpendicularly to the main body. A plastic member is formed and integrated with the glass member by insert molding. The plastic member is formed in the glass member and fit closely against the glass member.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for manufacturing a housing of a portable electronic device, comprising:
 providing a plate glass;   cutting the plate glass, wherein, after cutting, the plate glass comprises a main body with curved corners and a plurality of side edges, each side edge is connected with two curved corners;   forming a glass member by a thermal bending process, wherein the side edges are bent from the main body, and perpendicularly to the main body; and   forming a plastic member integrated with the glass member by insert molding, wherein the plastic member is formed in the glass member and fit closely against the glass member.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of through hole is formed in the side edges. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the glass member is mirror polished, chemically strengthened, or surface coated before forming the plastic member. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the side edge is strip shaped. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the side edges are spaced from each other, and the glass member further comprises a plurality of gap portions between neighbored side edges. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the plastic member further comprises at least one plastic protrusion portion covered above at least one gap portion. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the glass member is rectangular and is made of a tempered glass. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the plate glass is configured to be heated to a softening point and reshaped under gravity or other external force, before being naturally cooled.
