Abstract

A nasal delivery device for and a method of delivering a substance, in particular one of a liquid, as a suspension or solution, or a powder containing a medicament, especially systemic or topical pharmaceuticals, or a vaccine to the nasal airway of a subject.

         404 . A nasal delivery device for delivering a substance to a nasal airway of a subject, comprising:
 a nosepiece unit configured to fit in a nostril of the subject, the nosepiece unit including a nozzle through which the substance is delivered to the nasal airway of the subject;   a mouthpiece unit configured to fit in a mouth of the subject and receive a flow of exhalation breath from the subject, whereby exhalation by the subject causes closure of a oropharyngeal velum of the subject;   a flow channel fluidly connecting the nosepiece unit and the mouthpiece unit, whereby exhalation breath flows from the mouthpiece unit through the fluid channel and out of the nosepiece unit;   at least one cuff member, which includes at least one lobe, configured to extend into a region of the nasal cavity of the subject and engage an inner wall of the nasal cavity of the subject when fitted in the nasal cavity of the subject; and   a delivery unit for delivering the substance through the nozzle of the nosepiece unit.

 a nosepiece unit configured to fit in a nostril of the subject, the nosepiece unit including a nozzle through which the substance is delivered to the nasal airway of the subject;   a mouthpiece unit configured to fit in a mouth of the subject and receive a flow of exhalation breath from the subject, whereby exhalation by the subject causes closure of a oropharyngeal velum of the subject;   a flow channel fluidly connecting the nosepiece unit and the mouthpiece unit, whereby exhalation breath flows from the mouthpiece unit through the fluid channel and out of the nosepiece unit; and   a delivery unit for delivering the substance through the nozzle of the nosepiece unit;   wherein the substance is a powder, a pharmaceutical, and an anti-migraine composition.
