Abstract

A non-compliant medical balloon, where the non-compliant medical balloon may be changed from a deflated state to an inflated state by increasing pressure within the balloon, is made with a first fiber layer, a second fiber layer over said first fiber layer such that the fibers of the first fiber layer and the fibers of the second fiber layer form an angle and a binding layer coating the first fiber layer and said second fiber layer. The interior surface area of the non-compliant medical balloon remains unchanged when the balloon changes from a deflated state to an inflated state

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of manufacturing a medical balloon, comprising: preparing a surface of a wall of the balloon and an elongate reinforcement member to promote adhesion between the wall and the elongate reinforcement member; wrapping the elongate reinforcement member over the wall; covering the wall and the elongate reinforcement member with a polymer; and bonding the elongate reinforcement member to the wall.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further including the step of providing a base balloon comprising the wall.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further including the step of applying a polymeric solution onto a mandrel to form the wall.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the bonding step comprises coating the elongate reinforcement member with a polymeric solution to form a fiber/polymeric matrix.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further including the step of curing the fiber/polymeric matrix.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the elongate reinforcement member is substantially equal in length to the length of the longitudinal axis of the balloon.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further including the step of creating a fabric of a plurality of elongate reinforcement members, and wherein the bonding step comprises attaching the plurality of elongate reinforcement members to polymer wall.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further including the step of cutting the fabric into a pattern and wherein the wrapping step comprises wrapping said fabric around the polymer wall.
