Abstract

An acoustic control system wirelessly operates a subsea latching assembly or other subsea device, such as an active seal. The acoustic control system may control a subsea first accumulator to release its stored hydraulic fluid to operate the latch assembly or other subsea device, such as an active seal. An RCD or other oilfield device may be unlatched or latched with the latching assembly. The acoustic control system may have a surface control unit, a subsea control unit, and two or more acoustic signal devices. A valve may allow switching from an umbilical line system to the acoustic control system accumulator.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 45 . (canceled)

46 . A method of data transmission from a subsea housing, the method comprising:
receiving data at a remote operated vehicle (ROV) panel with the subsea housing, wherein the data is selected from the group consisting of: a) a pressure in the housing, b) a temperature in the housing, c) a flow of fluid in the housing and d) a position of a latching piston in the housing; and communicating the data from the ROV panel to a subsea ROV.

         47 . A method, comprising:
outputting from a sensor a data signal indicative of a well parameter; wirelessly transmitting the data signal to a location selected from the group consisting of a subsea location and a surface location; and processing the data signal at the location.

48 . The method of claim 46 , further comprising transmitting a hydraulic fluid from the subsea ROV to the ROV panel.

49 . The method of claim 46 , further comprising transmitting a signal wirelessly from the subsea ROV to the ROV panel.

50 . The method of claim 46 , wherein the communicating comprises transmitting a signal wirelessly from the ROV panel to the subsea ROV.

51 . The method of claim 46 , wherein the communicating comprises acoustically transmitting the data.

52 . The method of claim 46 , further comprising processing the data at a subsea location.

53 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the subsea location is in the subsea ROV.

54 . The method of claim 46 , further comprising processing the data at a surface location.

55 . The method of claim 47 , wherein the well parameter is selected from the group consisting of: a) a pressure in a subsea housing, b) a temperature in the housing, c) a flow of fluid in the housing and d) a position of a latching piston in the housing.

56 . The method of claim 55 , further comprising positioning an oilfield device at least partially in the subsea housing.

57 . The method of claim 56 , wherein the oilfield device comprises a rotating control device.

58 . The method of claim 47 , wherein the wirelessly transmitting further comprises acoustically transmitting the data signal.

59 . The method of claim 47 , wherein the location comprises a subsea remote operated vehicle.

60 . The method of claim 47 , further comprising wirelessly transmitting to a signal device with a subsea housing.

61 . The method of claim 60 , wherein the wirelessly transmitting comprises acoustically transmitting.

62 . The method of claim 60 , further comprising positioning an oilfield device at least partially in the subsea housing.

63 . The method of claim 62 , wherein the oilfield device comprises a rotating control device.
