Abstract

Methods and apparatus are disclosed to detect advertisements embedded in online media. Example methods disclosed herein determine a first time associated with an event notification embedded in a primary media. Examples disclosed herein determine, via a processor, a second time associated with a media feature of the primary media, and determine that secondary media is embedded in the primary media when a difference between the first time and the second time meets a threshold.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to determining that secondary media is embedded in the primary media, identifying the second time as a start time of the secondary media.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising, in response to identifying the second time as a start time of the secondary media, determining an end time of the secondary media.

         9 . (canceled)

         10 . (canceled)

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the threshold is a window of time that denotes the event notification and the media feature are related.

         12 . (canceled)

13 . A computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a machine to at least:
determine a first time associated with an event notification embedded in a primary media; determine a second time associated with a media feature of the primary media; and determine that secondary media is embedded in the primary media when a difference between the first time and the second time meets a threshold.

14 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause the machine to at least extract a portion of the secondary media in response to determining the secondary media is embedded in the primary media.

         15 . (canceled)

16 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause the machine to at least extract auxiliary data controlling the presence and location of the event notification.

17 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause the machine to at least:
determine a location of the event notification with respect to a progress bar associated the primary media; obtain a presentation time of the primary media; determine a length of the progress bar, the length representative of the presentation time of the primary media; determine a ratio of the location and the length; and determine the first time associated with the event notification by multiplying the ratio and the presentation time.

18 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause the machine to at least, identify the second time as a start time of the secondary media in response to determining that secondary media is embedded in the primary media.

19 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 18 , further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause the machine to at least, determine an end time of the secondary media in response to identifying the second time as a start time of the secondary media.

         20 . (canceled)
