Abstract

An input device includes an operation unit that is held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space to remotely operate an information processing device, a directional button that is provided on the operation unit and operated by the user to point in a direction, and a transmission unit that, when the directional button is operated while the operation unit is being operated in the free space, transmits information corresponding to the operation in the free space and information corresponding to the operated directional button to the information processing device so that an object image linearly moves by only an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button out of an operation amount in the free space after the operation of the directional button.

         2 . An input device, comprising:
 an operation unit that is held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate an information processing device;
 a directional button that is provided on the operation unit and is operated by the user to point in a direction; and 
 a transmitter that, when the directional button is operated during operation of the operation unit in the free space, transmits information corresponding to the operation in the free space and information on the directional button which has been operated to the information processing device so as to allow an object image to linearly move by an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button out of an amount of operation in the free space after the operation of the directional button. 
   
     
     
         3 . The input device according to  claim 1 , wherein the object image is a pointer. 
     
     
         4 . An input method performed by an input device that includes an operation unit and a directional button, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate an information processing device, the directional button being provided on the operation unit and operated by the user to point in a direction, the input method comprising:
 transmitting, when the directional button is operated during operation of the operation unit in the free space, information corresponding to the operation in the free space and information on the directional button which has been operated to the information processing device so as to allow an object image to linearly move by an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button out of an amount of operation in the free space after the operation of the directional button.   
     
     
         5 . An information processing device, comprising:
 a receiver that receives signals from an operation unit, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate the information processing device, the operation unit including a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction; and   a controller that controls an object image so that, when the directional button is operated during operation of the operation unit in the free space, the object image linearly moves by an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button out of an amount of operation in the free space after the operation of the directional button.   
     
     
         6 . The information processing device according to  claim 4 , wherein the object image is a pointer. 
     
     
         7 . The information processing device according to  claim 5 , wherein the controller sets an initial display position of the pointer at a preset position. 
     
     
         8 . The information processing device according to  claim 6 , wherein the initial display position of the pointer is set by the user. 
     
     
         9 . An information processing method, comprising:
 providing a receiver and a controller;   receiving, by the receiver, signals from an operation unit, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate an information processing device, the operation unit including a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction; and   controlling, by the controller, an object image so that, when the directional button is operated during operation of the operation unit in the free space, the object image linearly moves by an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button out of an amount of operation in the free space after the operation of the directional button.   
     
     
         10 . A program for causing a computer to execute functions as:
 receiving means for receiving signals from an operation unit, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate an information processing device, the operation unit including a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction; and   control means for controlling an object image so that, when the directional button is operated during operation of the operation unit in the free space, the object image linearly moves by an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button after the operation of the directional button out of an amount of operation in the free space.   
     
     
         11 . An information processing system, comprising:
 an input device; and   an information processing device, the information processing device being controlled by a remote control signal from the input device,
 the input device including
 an operation unit that is held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate the information processing device, the operation unit including a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction, and 
 a transmitter that transmits information corresponding to operation of the operation unit in the free space and information corresponding to the directional button which has been operated, 
 
 the information processing device including
 a controller that controls an object image so that, when the directional button is operated during operation of the operation unit in the free space, the object image linearly moves by an amount corresponding to a directional component of the directional button after the operation of the directional button out of an amount of operation in the free space. 
 
   
     
     
         12 . An input device, comprising:
 an operation unit that is held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate an information processing device;   a directional button that is provided on the operation unit and is operated by the user to point in a direction; and   a transmitter that transmits at least one of information corresponding to operation of the operation unit in the free space and information corresponding to the directional button which has been operated to the information processing device, wherein   when the directional button is operated during nonlinear movement of an object image displayed by the information processing device based on the information corresponding to the operation in the free space, the transmitter transmits the information corresponding to the directional button which has been operated to the information processing device so as to allow the object image that is nonlinearly moving to linearly move onto another image located in the direction pointed by the directional button.   
     
     
         13 . The input device according to  claim 11 , wherein the object image is a pointer.

An input method performed by an input device that includes an operation unit, a directional button, and a transmitter, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate an information processing device, the directional button being provided on the operation unit and operated by the user to point in a direction, the transmitter being configured to transmit at least one of information corresponding to operation of the operation unit in the free space and information corresponding to the directional button which has been operated to the information processing device, the input method comprising:
 transmitting, by the transmitter, when the directional button is operated during nonlinear movement of an object image displayed by the information processing device based on the information corresponding to the operation in the free space, the information corresponding to the directional button which has been operated to the information processing device so as to allow the object image that is nonlinearly moving to linearly move onto another image located in the direction pointed by the directional button.   
     
     
         15 . An information processing device, comprising:
 a receiver that receives, from an input device for remote operation of the information processing device, at least one of information corresponding to operation of an operation unit in a three-dimensional free space, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in the free space, and information corresponding to a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction; and   a controller that controls movement of an object image on the basis of the information corresponding to the operation in the free space or the information corresponding to the directional button, which is received by the receiver, wherein   when the information corresponding to the directional button is received by the receiver during nonlinear movement of the object image under control by the controller based on the information corresponding to the operation in the free space, the controller controls the object image that is nonlinearly moving so that the object image linearly moves onto another image located in the direction pointed by the directional button on the basis of the information corresponding to the directional button.   
     
     
         16 . The information processing device according to  claim 14 , wherein the object image is a pointer. 
     
     
         17 . The information processing device according to  claim 15 , wherein the controller sets an initial display position of the pointer at a preset position. 
     
     
         18 . The information processing device according to  claim 16 , wherein the initial display position of the pointer is set by the user. 
     
     
         19 . An information processing method performed by an information processing device that includes a receiver and a controller, the receiver being configured to receive, from an input device for remote operation of the information processing device, at least one of information corresponding to operation of an operation unit in a three-dimensional free space, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in the free space, and information corresponding to a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction, the controller being configured to control movement of an object image on the basis of the information corresponding to the operation in the free space or the information corresponding to the directional button, which is received by the receiver, the information processing method comprising:
 controlling, by the controller, when the information corresponding to the directional button is received by the receiver during nonlinear movement of the object image under control by the controller based on the information corresponding to the operation in the free space, the object image that is nonlinearly moving so that the object image linearly moves onto another image located in the direction pointed by the directional button on the basis of the information corresponding to the directional button.   
     
     
         20 . A program for causing a computer to execute functions as:
 receiving means for receiving, from an input device for remote operation of an information processing device, at least one of information corresponding to operation of an operation unit in a three-dimensional free space, the operation unit being held by a user and operated in the free space, and information corresponding to a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction; and   control means for controlling movement of an object image on the basis of the information corresponding to the operation in the free space or the information on the directional button, which is received by the receiving means, wherein   when the information corresponding to the directional button is received by the receiving means during nonlinear movement of the object image under control by the control means based on the information corresponding to the operation in the free space, the control means controls the object image that is nonlinearly moving so that the object image linearly moves onto another image located in the direction pointed by the directional button on the basis of the information corresponding to the directional button.   
     
     
         21 . An information processing system comprising:
 an input device; and   an information processing device, the information processing device being controlled by a remote control signal from the input device,   the input device including
 an operation unit that is held by a user and operated in a three-dimensional free space so as to remotely operate the information processing device, the operation unit including a directional button that is operated by the user to point in a direction, and 
 a transmitter that transmits at least one of information corresponding to operation of the operation unit in the free space and information corresponding to the directional button which has been operated, 
 the information processing device including
 a receiver that receives at least one of the information corresponding to the operation in the free space and the information corresponding to the directional button, and 
 a controller that controls movement of the object image on the basis of the information corresponding to the operation in the free space or the information corresponding to the directional button, which is received by the receiver, wherein 
 
 when the information corresponding to the directional button is received by the receiver during nonlinear movement of the object image under control by the controller based on the information corresponding to the operation in the free space, the controller controls the object image that is nonlinearly moving so that the object image linearly moves onto another image located in the direction pointed by the directional button on the basis of the information corresponding to the directional button.
