Navigation system and methods for route navigation
Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods for improved navigation using the global positioning system (GPS). A method of improved navigation includes transmitting a destination to a navigation server through a wireless communication channel. The method further includes transmitting position information from a GPS-enabled device to the navigation server through the wireless communication channel automatically at a time interval. The method further includes generating navigation information by the navigation server. The navigation information is based on the position information and the destination. The method further includes receiving navigation information on the GPS-enabled device from the navigation server through the wireless communication channel.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 35 . (canceled)
36 . A method comprising:
at a GPS-enabled navigation system communicatively coupled to a mobile device via a communication link, receiving a location from the mobile device via the communication link; at the GPS-enabled navigation system, determining navigation information, using a GPS receiver of the GPS-enabled navigation system, based on a current location as a starting point and the location as a destination; and at the GPS-enabled navigation system, providing the navigation information on a display of the GPS-enabled navigation system.
37 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the communication link uses a wireless technology.
38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the wireless technology is Bluetooth.
39 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the GPS-enabled navigation system is a vehicle navigation system.
40 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the location is defined by a longitude and a latitude.
41 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the location is one of a street address and a postal address.
42 . The method of claim 36 , wherein GPS-enabled navigation system provides the navigation information without communicating with the mobile device.
43 . A navigation system comprising:
a GPS receiver; a display; a wireless communication module configured to be communicatively coupled to a mobile device via a communication link; and a processor configured to:
receive a location from the mobile device via the communication link;
determine navigation information, using the GPS receiver of the navigation system, based on a current location as a starting point and the location as a destination; and
provide the navigation information on the display of the navigation system.
44 . The navigation system of claim 43 , wherein the communication link uses a wireless technology.
45 . The navigation system of claim 44 , wherein the wireless technology is Bluetooth.
46 . The navigation system of claim 43 , wherein the GPS-enabled navigation system is a vehicle navigation system.
47 . The navigation system of claim 43 , wherein the location is defined by a longitude and a latitude.
48 . The navigation system of claim 43 , wherein the location is one of a street address and a postal address.
49 . The navigation system of claim 43 , wherein GPS-enabled navigation system provides the navigation information without communicating with the mobile device.
50 . A method for use by a navigation system including a GPS receiver, a display, a wireless communication module and a processor, the method comprising:
communicatively coupling the navigation system, using the wireless communication module, to a mobile device via a communication link; and receiving, using the processor, a location from the mobile device via the communication link; determining navigation information, using the GPS receiver of the navigation system, based on a current location as a starting point and the location as a destination; and providing the navigation information on the display of the navigation system.
51 . The method of claim 50 , wherein the communication link uses a wireless technology.
52 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the wireless technology is Bluetooth.
53 . The method of claim 50 , wherein the GPS-enabled navigation system is a vehicle navigation system.
54 . The method of claim 50 , wherein the location is defined by a longitude and a latitude.
55 . The method of claim 50 , wherein the location is one of a street address and a postal address.
56 . The method of claim 50 , wherein GPS-enabled navigation system provides the navigation information without communicating with the mobile device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
