Over-Garment for Comfortable Protection Below the Neck

Abstract

An over-garment for comfortable protection below the neck of a person in a seated or reclining position while having a potentially taint-producing procedure performed on the person's head, by using an improved design creating greater and more-secure protection while allowing the withdrawal and re-insertion of the person's arms through the sleeves without disturbing the placement nor the performance of the over-garment.

I claim: 
     
         1 . An over-garment for comfortable protection below the neck of a person having a length from the shoulder to the bent elbow measuring not greater than a maximum such length for the largest person anticipated to be accommodated, comprising:
 a target length slightly longer than the measured length from the shoulder to the bent elbow of the largest person anticipated to be accommodated;   a piece of taint-proof comfortable material having a top edge of length approximately 3 times target length and two side edges having at least 4 times target length approximately perpendicular to said top edge, having a median line in the middle of and perpendicular to said top edge and parallel to said side edges;   a cut opening of approximately target length along median line from said top edge;   a head opening extended from said cut opening along median line;   at least two darts in said material disposed symmetrically along median line at each said side edge approximately two target lengths from said top edge, where said darts cause a separation of said material at said cut opening, creating an angled over-panel oblique to median line having an over-panel inside edge at said cut opening and an angled under-panel oblique to median line having an under-panel inside edge at said cut opening;   two armholes in said material, disposed symmetrically about median line, each armhole having a center at the intersection of a line perpendicular to each said side edge at said darts and parallel to said side edges at approximately 75% target length from said side edges, each armhole having a shoulder point closest to said head opening and a bent-elbow point opposite said armhole from said shoulder point, an armhole size the distance between said shoulder point and said bent-elbow point, said armhole size being equal to the target length, and an armhole orientation along a line from said shoulder point and said bent-elbow point, said armhole orientation being oblique to median line;   two sleeves made from said material, each having a sleeve length of approximately 1.5 target lengths, and each attached to one of said armholes;   two wristbands, each disposed at the end of one of said sleeves opposite the end attached to one of said armholes, creating openings for the person's hands to emerge from said sleeves, and having elastic qualities to provide a close fit to the person's wrists;   several over-fasteners disposed along said over-panel inside edge from said top edge and along the over-panel side of said head opening;   several under-fasteners disposed upon said under-panel in a line running from near said head opening generally diagonally toward the corner of said under-panel farthest from said head opening, and upon said under-panel inside edge surrounding said head opening;   where said taint-proof comfortable material provides protection and comfort for the person;   where said head opening and cut opening and said angled disposition of said over-panel and under-panel accommodates a secure, overlapping placement and removal of said over-garment on persons of varying sizes;   where said over-fasteners and under-fasteners are adapted to couple and uncouple, and where said dispositions of over-fasteners and under-fasteners accommodates secure comfortable closing of said over-garment on different-sized persons by connection of different selected over-fasteners to different selected under-fasteners using only a small number of coupled pairs of fasteners; and   where said sleeves, having said wristbands, and having said armhole size and armhole orientation, protect the person's arms while accommodating withdrawal and re-insertion of the person's arms through the sleeves without disturbing the placement nor the performance of the over-garment.   
     
     
         2 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one band attached to the edge of said taint-proof comfortable material at said head opening and along the positions occupied by said over-fasteners and under-fasteners. 
     
     
         3 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one additional piece of said taint-proof comfortable material attached to the bottom edge of said over-garment by a seam on the bottom edge, at least 3 times the target length distant from said shoulder points; where said seem will fall below the level of the sitting person's knees. 
     
     
         4 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said taint-proof comfortable material further comprises a fabric impermeable to liquid water from an obverse side and permeable to water vapor from the reverse side. 
     
     
         5 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said angled orientation of said over-panel and under-panel is an angle of from 5 to 25 degrees away from median line. 
     
     
         6 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said angled orientation of said over-panel and under-panel is an angle of from 10 to 15 degrees away from median line. 
     
     
         7 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said angled orientation of said over-panel and under-panel is an angle of 10 degrees away from median line. 
     
     
         8 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said armhole orientation oblique to median line is an angle of from 20 to 30 degrees away from median line. 
     
     
         9 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said armhole orientation oblique to median line is an angle of 25 degrees away from median line. 
     
     
         10 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said over-fasteners and under-fasteners further comprise continuous strips allowing coupling at various points on said strips. 
     
     
         11 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said target length is at least 20 inches, sufficient to accommodate very large persons. 
     
     
         12 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said target length is at least 18 inches, sufficient to accommodate large persons. 
     
     
         13 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said target length is at least 16 inches, sufficient to accommodate medium-sized adult persons. 
     
     
         14 . The over-garment of  claim 1 , where said target length is at least 14 inches, sufficient to accommodate small-sized adult persons and children. 
     
     
         15 . A method for comfortable protection below the neck of a person having a length from the shoulder to the bent elbow measuring not greater than a maximum such length for the largest person anticipated to be accommodated, comprising:
 determining a target length slightly longer than the measured length from the shoulder to the bent elbow of the largest person anticipated to be accommodated;   providing an over-garment constructed from a piece of taint-proof comfortable material having a top edge of length approximately 3 times target length and two side edges having at least 4 times target length approximately perpendicular to said top edge, having a median line in the middle of and perpendicular to said top edge and parallel to said side edges;   a cut opening of approximately target length along median line from said top edge;   a head opening extended from said cut opening along median line;   at least two darts in said material disposed symmetrically along median line at each said side edge approximately two target lengths from said top edge, where said darts cause a separation of said material at said cut opening, creating an angled over-panel oblique to median line having an over-panel inside edge at said cut opening and an angled under-panel oblique to median line having an under-panel inside edge at said cut opening;   two armholes in said material, disposed symmetrically about median line, each armhole having a center at the intersection of a line perpendicular to each said side edge at said darts and parallel to said side edges at approximately 75% target length from said side edges, each armhole having a shoulder point closest to said head opening and a bent-elbow point opposite said armhole from said shoulder point, an armhole size the distance between said shoulder point and said bent-elbow point, said armhole size being equal to the target length, and an armhole orientation along a line from said shoulder point and said bent-elbow point, said armhole orientation being oblique to median line;   two sleeves made from said material, each having a sleeve length of approximately 1.5 target lengths, and each attached to one of said armholes;   two wristbands, each disposed at the end of one of said sleeves opposite the end attached to one of said armholes, creating openings for the person's hands to emerge from said sleeves, and having elastic qualities to provide a close fit to the person's wrists;   several over-fasteners disposed along said over-panel inside edge from said top edge and along the over-panel side of said head opening;   several under-fasteners disposed upon said under-panel in a line running from near said head opening generally diagonally toward the corner of said under-panel farthest from said head opening, and upon said under-panel inside edge surrounding said head opening;   where said taint-proof comfortable material provides protection and comfort for the person;   where said head opening and cut opening and said angled disposition of said over-panel and under-panel accommodates a secure, overlapping placement and removal of said over-garment on persons of varying sizes;   where said over-fasteners and under-fasteners are adapted to couple and uncouple, and where said dispositions of over-fasteners and under-fasteners accommodates secure comfortable closing of said over-garment on different-sized persons by connection of different selected over-fasteners to different selected under-fasteners using only a small number of coupled pairs of fasteners; and   where said sleeves, having said wristbands, and having said armhole size and armhole orientation, protect the person's arms while accommodating withdrawal and re-insertion of the person's arms through the sleeves without disturbing the placement nor the performance of the over-garment.   
     
     
         16 . The method for comfortable protection below the neck of a person of  claim 15 , where said target length is at least 18 inches, to accommodate up to large-sized adults. 
     
     
         17 . The method for comfortable protection below the neck of a person of  claim 15 , where said angled orientation of said over-panel and under-panel is an angle of from 10 to 15 degrees away from median line and where said armhole orientation oblique to median line is an angle of from 20 to 30 degrees away from median line. 
     
     
         18 . A method for constructing an over-garment for comfortable protection below the neck of a person having a length from the shoulder to the bent elbow measuring not greater than a maximum such length for the largest person anticipated to be accommodated, comprising:
 determining a target length slightly longer than the measured length from the shoulder to the bent elbow of the largest person anticipated to be accommodated;   providing and assembling an over-garment comprising:   a piece of taint-proof comfortable material having a top edge of length approximately 3 times target length and two side edges having at least 4 times target length approximately perpendicular to said top edge, having a median line in the middle of and perpendicular to said top edge and parallel to said side edges;   providing a piece of taint-proof comfortable material having a top edge of length approximately 3 times target length and two side edges having at least 4 times target length approximately perpendicular to said top edge, having a median line in the middle of and perpendicular to said top edge and parallel to said side edges;   a cut opening of approximately target length along median line from said top edge;   a head opening extended from said cut opening along median line;   at least two darts in said material disposed symmetrically along median line at each said side edge approximately two target lengths from said top edge, where said darts cause a separation of said material at said cut opening, creating an angled over-panel oblique to median line having an over-panel inside edge at said cut opening and an angled under-panel oblique to median line having an under-panel inside edge at said cut opening;   two armholes in said material, disposed symmetrically about median line, each armhole having a center at the intersection of a line perpendicular to each said side edge at said darts and parallel to said side edges at approximately 75% target length from said side edges, each armhole having a shoulder point closest to said head opening and a bent-elbow point opposite said armhole from said shoulder point, an armhole size the distance between said shoulder point and said bent-elbow point, said armhole size being equal to the target length, and an armhole orientation along a line from said shoulder point and said bent-elbow point, said armhole orientation being oblique to median line;   two sleeves made from said material, each having a sleeve length of approximately 1.5 target lengths, and each attached to one of said armholes;   two wristbands, each disposed at the end of one of said sleeves opposite the end attached to one of said armholes, creating openings for the person's hands to emerge from said sleeves, and having elastic qualities to provide a close fit to the person's wrists;   several over-fasteners disposed along said over-panel inside edge from said top edge and along the over-panel side of said head opening;   several under-fasteners disposed upon said under-panel in a line running from near said head opening generally diagonally toward the corner of said under-panel farthest from said head opening, and upon said under-panel inside edge surrounding said head opening;   where said taint-proof comfortable material provides protection and comfort for the person;   where said head opening and cut opening and said angled disposition of said over-panel and under-panel accommodates a secure, overlapping placement and removal of said over-garment on persons of varying sizes;   where said over-fasteners and under-fasteners are adapted to couple and uncouple, and where said dispositions of over-fasteners and under-fasteners accommodates secure comfortable closing of said over-garment on different-sized persons by connection of different selected over-fasteners to different selected under-fasteners using only a small number of coupled pairs of fasteners; and   where said sleeves, having said wristbands, and having said armhole size and armhole orientation, protect the person's arms while accommodating withdrawal and re-insertion of the person's arms through the sleeves without disturbing the placement nor the performance of the over-garment.   
     
     
         19 . The method for constructing an over-garment for comfortable protection below the neck of  claim 18 , where said target length is at least 18 inches, to accommodate up to large-sized adults.

The method for constructing an over-garment for comfortable protection below the neck of  claim 18 , where said angled orientation of said over-panel and under-panel is an angle of from 10 to 15 degrees away from median line and where said armhole orientation oblique to median line is an angle of from 20 to 30 degrees away from median line.
