Abstract
A multimedia mobile personalization system allows a user to record and play multimedia content on a set top box at a location other than his home using the user's preferences from his home DVR.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for serving content, comprising:
receiving, by a server that manages a temporary content service at a geographic location, user input that indicates a content service to which a user subscribes, the user being a temporary user to the temporary content service at the geographic location; sending, over a network by the server to the content service, a request for individualized program listing information for the user; receiving, over a network by the server to the content service, the individualized program listing information for the user; storing, by the server, particular multimedia content for the user, the particular multimedia content being identified through the individualized program listing information received from the content service.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the individualized program listing information is generated by the content service based at least in part on user preferences of the user.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the individualized program listing information is generated by the content service based at least in part on a recording schedule of a client device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: modifying, by the server, the individualized program listing information based in part on what is available at the temporary content service.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving, by the server, changes to the user's viewing preferences; sending, by the server, an update including the changes to the user's viewing preference, to the content service to which the user subscribes.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: sending, by the server to the content service, a notification that the user has consumed a recording at the temporary content service.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving, by the server, a specific time period during which the user is to use the temporary content service; performing, by the server, a preparation to make the particular multimedia content available to the user before the specific time period begins.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: downloading, by the server, the particular multimedia content to a client device assigned to the user while the user accesses the temporary content service.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the server receives multimedia content recording requests from a client device associated with the user, and wherein the server the individualized program listing information based in part on the multimedia content recording requests.
10 . An apparatus, comprising:
a receiving device, at a server, that receives, by a server that manages a temporary content service at a geographic location, user input that indicates a content service to which a user subscribes, the user being a temporary user to the temporary content service at the geographic location; a sending device, at the server, that sends, over a network by the server to the content service, a request for individualized program listing information for the user; a receiving device, at the server, that receives, over a network by the server to the content service, the individualized program listing information for the user; a storing device, at the server, that stores, by the server, particular multimedia content for the user, the particular multimedia content being identified through the individualized program listing information received from the content service.
11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the individualized program listing information is generated by the content service based at least in part on user preferences of the user.
12 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the individualized program listing information is generated by the content service based at least in part on a recording schedule of a client device.
13 . The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising: a modifying device, at the server, that modifies, by the server, the individualized program listing information based in part on what is available at the temporary content service.
14 . The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising:
a receiving device, at the server, that receives, by the server, changes to the user's viewing preferences; a sending device, at the server, that sends, by the server, an update including the changes to the user's viewing preference, to the content service to which the user subscribes.
15 . The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising: a sending device, at the server, that sends, by the server to the content service, a notification that the user has consumed a recording at the temporary content service.
16 . The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising:
a receiving device, at the server, that receives, by the server, a specific time period during which the user is to use the temporary content service; a preparation device, at the server, that performs, by the server, a preparation to make the particular multimedia content available to the user before the specific time period begins.
17 . The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising: a downloading device that downloads, by the server, the particular multimedia content to a client device assigned to the user while the user accesses the temporary content service.
18 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the server receives multimedia content recording requests from a client device associated with the user, and wherein the server the individualized program listing information based in part on the multimedia content recording requests.
19 . A non-transitory computer readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions for serving content to a plurality of client devices, wherein execution of the one or more sequences of instructions by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform the steps of:
receiving, by a server that manages a temporary content service at a geographic location, user input that indicates a content service to which a user subscribes, the user being a temporary user to the temporary content service at the geographic location; sending, over a network by the server to the content service, a request for individualized program listing information for the user; receiving, over a network by the server to the content service, the individualized program listing information for the user; storing, by the server, particular multimedia content for the user, the particular multimedia content being identified through the individualized program listing information received from the content service.
20 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the individualized program listing information is generated by the content service based at least in part on user preferences of the user.
21 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the individualized program listing information is generated by the content service based at least in part on a recording schedule of a client device.
22 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the one or more sequences of instructions further comprise instructions, which instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: modifying, by the server, the individualized program listing information based in part on what is available at the temporary content service.
23 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the one or more sequences of instructions further comprise instructions, which instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform:
receiving, by the server, changes to the user's viewing preferences; sending, by the server, an update including the changes to the user's viewing preference, to the content service to which the user subscribes.
24 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the one or more sequences of instructions further comprise instructions, which instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: sending, by the server to the content service, a notification that the user has consumed a recording at the temporary content service.
25 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the one or more sequences of instructions further comprise instructions, which instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform:
receiving, by the server, a specific time period during which the user is to use the temporary content service; performing, by the server, a preparation to make the particular multimedia content available to the user before the specific time period begins.
26 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the one or more sequences of instructions further comprise instructions, which instructions, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: downloading, by the server, the particular multimedia content to a client device assigned to the user while the user accesses the temporary content service.
27 . The medium of claim 19 , wherein the server receives multimedia content recording requests from a client device associated with the user, and wherein the server the individualized program listing information based in part on the multimedia content recording requests.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
