Abstract
A skin antisepsis composition comprising a vehicle comprising a (C1-4)alcohol and water in a ratio of at least 60:40, a hydroxycarboxylic acid, a cationic film-forming polymer, and at least one antimicrobial agent; and methods of using the composition are provided.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An antiseptic composition for use in disinfecting tissue, wherein the antiseptic composition comprises:
an antimicrobial agent selected from the group consisting of iodine, an iodophor, and a combination thereof, wherein the antimicrobial agent is present in an amount sufficient to provide an available iodine concentration of at least 0.25 wt-%; a hydroxycarboxylic acid buffer in a molar concentration of at least 0.3 molar; and water.
2 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 1 , wherein the antiseptic composition further includes one or more nonionic, anionic, or amphoteric surfactants.
3 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 2 , wherein the surfactant is an anionic or amphoteric surfactant.
4 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 3 , wherein the anionic or amphoteric surfactant is selected from the group consisting of sulfonates, sulfates, phosphates, phosphonates, and ammonium sulfonate amphoterics, and mixtures thereof.
5 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 4 , wherein the hydroxycarboxylic acid buffer is present in a molar concentration of at least 0.45 molar.
6 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 1 , wherein the antiseptic composition further includes a film-forming polymer.
7 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 6 , wherein the film-forming polymer is cationic.
8 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 1 wherein the iodophor is povidone-iodine.
9 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 1 wherein the tissue is skin or mucosal tissue.
10 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 9 , wherein the mucosal tissue is nasal or vaginal tissue.
11 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 10 , wherein the mucosal tissue is nasal tissue.
12 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 1 , wherein the antiseptic composition is to be directly applied to the tissue and is to remain on the tissue.
13 . The antiseptic composition for use according to claim 12 , wherein the antiseptic composition is to be applied prior to surgery, catheterization, or needle puncture.
14 . Use of a hydroxycarboxylic acid buffer for the preparation of an antiseptic composition for disinfecting tissue, wherein the antiseptic composition is as defined in claim 1 .
15 . The use according to claim 14 , wherein the tissue is skin or mucosal tissue.
16 . The use according to claim 15 , wherein the mucosal tissue is nasal or vaginal tissue.
17 . The use according to claim 16 , wherein the mucosal tissue is nasal tissue.
18 . The use according to claim 14 , wherein the antiseptic composition is to be directly applied to the tissue and is to remain on the tissue.
19 . The use according to claim 14 , wherein the antiseptic composition is to be applied prior to surgery, catheterization, or needle puncture.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
