Integrating Multimedia and Voicemail

Abstract

Integrated multimedia voicemail systems and methods allow the creation of voicemail with associated multimedia content. A user can compose a voicemail and select or create multimedia content to be associated with the voicemail. A user can associate files, webpage addresses, applications, and user-created content with a voicemail. A user may operate an interface on a user device to select content and instruct a voicemail system to associate such content with a voicemail. The voicemail with integrated multimedia content may be an originating voicemail or a voicemail in response to another voicemail.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A wireless device comprising:
 a memory comprising instructions;   a transceiver;   a visual display; and   a processor coupled to the memory that, when executing the instructions effectuates operations comprising:
 displaying on the visual display a prompt to associate multimedia content to an audible content; 
 receiving input responsive to the prompt selecting the multimedia content to be associated with the audible content 
 transmitting, via the transceiver, to a server a request to create a visual voicemail message comprising the audible content and the associated multimedia content; and 
 transmitting, via the transceiver, to the server the audible content of the visual voicemail message from the first device. 
   
     
     
         2 . The wireless device of  claim 1 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a visual voicemail message selected from among the group comprising a file, a webpage and a text message. 
     
     
         3 . The wireless device of  claim 1 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a file selected from among the group comprising a music file, a video file, an image file, a word processing document, an executable file, and an application. 
     
     
         4 . The wireless device of  claim 1 , wherein displaying on the visual display device a prompt to associate the multimedia content to the audible content comprises displaying a screen offering the option to attach a file, a webpage or text to a voicemail. 
     
     
         5 . The wireless device of  claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise converting a voice message to text using speech recognition technology. 
     
     
         6 . The wireless device of  claim 1 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a network address of a webpage. 
     
     
         7 . The wireless device of  claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving notification that the audible content and the associated multimedia content has been sent. 
     
     
         8 . A method, comprising:
 displaying on a visual display in a mobile device a prompt to associate multimedia content to an audible content;   receiving input responsive to the prompt selecting the multimedia content to be associated with the audible content;   transmitting, a request to a server to create a visual voicemail message comprising the audible content and the associated multimedia content; and   transmitting to the server the audible content of the visual voicemail message from the first device.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a visual voicemail message selected from among the group comprising a file, a webpage and a text message. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a file selected from among the group comprising a music file, a video file, an image file, a word processing document, an executable file, and an application. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein displaying on the visual display device a prompt to associate the multimedia content to the audible content comprises displaying a screen offering the option to attach a file, a webpage or text to a voicemail. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 8  further comprising converting a voice message to text using speech recognition technology. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a network address of a webpage. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising receiving notification that the audible content and the associated multimedia content has been sent. 
     
     
         15 . A computer-readable medium that is not a transient signal, the computer-readable medium comprising executable instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to effectuate operations comprising:
 displaying on a visual display in a mobile device a prompt to associate multimedia content to an audible content;   receiving input responsive to the prompt selecting the multimedia content to be associated with the audible content;   transmitting, to a server a request to a voicemail server to create a visual voicemail message comprising the audible content and the associated multimedia content; and   transmitting to the server the audible content of the visual voicemail message from the first device.   
     
     
         16 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a visual voicemail message selected from among the group comprising a file, a webpage and a text message. 
     
     
         17 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein the visual voicemail message further comprises a file selected from among the group comprising a music file, a video file, an image file, a word processing document, an executable file, and an application. 
     
     
         18 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , wherein displaying on the visual display a prompt to associate the multimedia content to the audible content comprises displaying a screen offering the option to attach a file, a webpage or text to a voicemail. 
     
     
         19 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 15  further comprising converting a voice message to text using speech recognition technology. 
     
     
         20 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 15 , the visual voicemail message further comprises a network address of a webpage.
