Abstract

An automation control and monitoring system includes a server configured to receive a subscription request from a client component. The subscription request provides one or more criteria to the server. The server is configured to provide a set of data, via a first notification, to the client component based upon the one or more criteria in the subscription request. The server is configured to provide, via additional notifications based on the subscription request, additional sets of data, modifications to the set of data, or both, when additional data or modifications corresponding to the one or more criteria are available.

         27 . An automation control and monitoring system, comprising:
 an automation component comprising a server that, in operation, receives a data request from a client component, the data request providing one or more criteria to the server; and   wherein the server, based upon the data request:
 accesses a limit designating a maximum amount of data to be returned to the client component in a transmission; 
 identifies a set of data associated with the one or more criteria; 
 provides, via a first transmission based upon the one or more criteria in the data request, a first subset of the set of data to the client component, wherein the first transmission is limited by the designated maximum amount of data; and 
 provides, via at least one additional transmission and based on upon the one or more criteria in the data request, a second subset of data to the client component, wherein the at least one additional transmission comprises data not sent in the first transmission due to the limit, and wherein the at least one additional transmission does not exceed the limit. 
   
     
     
         28 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , comprising the client component, wherein the client component is configured to provide a data filter in the data request. 
     
     
         29 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , wherein the server is configured to return the set of data having a specific set of properties to the client component, wherein the specific set of properties is provided in the data request. 
     
     
         30 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , wherein the data request comprises a subscription by the client component to the automation component. 
     
     
         31 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , wherein the data comprises dynamic content generated during control of an automated system. 
     
     
         32 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , wherein the automation component comprises an automation controller and the client component comprises a human machine interface. 
     
     
         33 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 32 , wherein the request comprises a request for data required by a view model for a visualization implemented by the human machine interface. 
     
     
         34 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , wherein the request comprises a request for updates to the data during operation of the automation control and monitoring system. 
     
     
         35 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 27 , wherein the first transmission and the at least one additional transmission are not sent at the same time. 
     
     
         36 . An automation control and monitoring system, comprising:
 an automation controller that, in operation, controls operation of an automated machine;   a human machine interface, communicatively coupled to the automation controller and providing a visualization of at least a portion of the machine;   wherein the automation controller comprises a server that, in operation, receives a data request from the human machine interface, the data request providing one or more criteria to the server; and   wherein the server, based upon the data request:
 identifies a set of data associated with the one or more criteria; 
 provides, via a first transmission based upon the one or more criteria in the data request, a first subset of the set of data to the human machine interface, wherein the first transmission is limited by a designated maximum amount of data; and 
 provides, via at least one additional transmission and based upon the one or more criteria in the data request, a second subset of the set of data to the human machine interface, wherein the at least one additional transmission comprises data not sent in the first transmission due to the limit, and wherein the at least one additional transmission does not exceed the limit. 
   
     
     
         37 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 36 , wherein data defining the visualization comprises executable objects. 
     
     
         38 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 37 , wherein data transmitted is utilized by the executable objects to visualize aspects of the machine. 
     
     
         39 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 37 , wherein data transmitted comprises data indicative of operational states of the machine. 
     
     
         40 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 36 , wherein the designated maximum amount of data is indicated in the data request. 
     
     
         41 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 36 , the designated maximum amount of data is defined in the server. 
     
     
         42 . An automation control and monitoring system, comprising:
 an automation controller that, in operation, controls operation of an automated of a machine;   a human machine interface, communicatively coupled to the automation controller and providing a visualization of at least a portion of the machine;   wherein the automation controller comprises a server that, in operation, receives data requests from the human machine interface, the data requests providing one or more criteria to the server; and   wherein the human machine interface comprises executable objects defining at least a portion of the visualization, and, in operation, issues the data requests to the server for dynamically generating the visualization, transmissions in response to the data requests being limited to a maximum amount of data; and   wherein the server, in operation, accesses data responsive to the data requests and provides the requested data, including any additions, modifications, or both to the requested data, to the human machine interface via asynchronous transmissions, the requested data being provided in multiple transmissions that each do not exceed the maximum limit, until a full set of the requested data is provided.   
     
     
         43 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 42 , wherein the human machine interface, in operation, subscribes to a query by sending an asynchronous subscription request to the server, the subscription request comprising one or more criteria that identifies the query. 
     
     
         44 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 43 , wherein the server, in operation, detects an identification of data relating to the one or more criteria, a deletion of data relating to the one or more criteria, or a modification of data relating to the one or more criteria; and provides an asynchronous modification notification of the identification, deletion, or modification to the human machine interface. 
     
     
         45 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 42 , wherein the server, in operation, detects a first portion of the requested data that is available for transmission, detects a second portion of the requested data that is not available for transmission, sends a first asynchronous transmission with the first portion to the human machine interface, and sends a second asynchronous notification with the second portion to the human machine interface when the second portion is available for transmission. 
     
     
         46 . The automation control and monitoring system of  claim 42 , wherein data defining the visualization comprises executable objects, and wherein data transmitted is utilized by the executable objects to visualize states of the machine.
