Request for confirmation of action to be taken after detection of activity using sensor data of wireless communication device (wcd)
Abstract
Various embodiments of a wireless communication device (WCD) that can be transported by a user are provided. One embodiment comprises a user interface that enables the WCD to receive inputs from the user and to provide outputs to the user. A sensor associated with the WCD produces sensor data. The sensor data indicative of physical movement of the WCD in three dimensional space. Computer program code is executed on the WCD and enables detection of a mobile thing motion activity (MTMA) associated with the user that is transporting the WCD based at least in part upon the sensor data. The code identifies an action to initiate based at least in part upon the detected MTMA, communicates a message to the user that requests confirmation that the action should be initiated, and initiates the action when the user provides the confirmation that the action should be initiated.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedAt least the following is claimed:
1 . A method for use in connection with a wireless communication device (WCD) that can be transported by a user, the method comprising:
providing sensor data with one or more sensors associated with the WCD, the sensor data indicative of physical movement of the WCD in three dimensional space; enabling detection of a plurality of different mobile thing motion activities (MTMAs) associated with the user that is transporting the WCD based at least in part upon the sensor data; detecting one or more MTMAs of the plurality of MTMAs; identifying an action to initiate based at least in part upon the detected MTMAs; communicating a message to the user that communicates the identified action and requests confirmation that the action should be initiated; initiating the action when the user provides an input to the WCD indicating the confirmation that the action should be initiated; and refraining from initiating the action when the user fails to provide the input to the WCD indicating the confirmation that the action should be initiated.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
accessing user preference information; and communicating the message based at least in part upon the user preference information.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising delaying the communicating of the message until the detected MTMAs terminate.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action involves causing the WCD to engage in a communication session with another WCD.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the action involves starting or stopping an application program on the WCD.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising communicating another message to the user that requests confirmation from the user of the detected MTMAs and communicating the message that requests confirmation that the action should be initiated, based at least in part upon receiving a positive confirmation of the detected MTMAs from the user.
8 . A wireless communication device (WCD) that can be transported by a user, the WCD comprising:
a user interface that enables the WCD to receive inputs from the user and to provide outputs to the user; one or more sensors associated with the WCD designed to produce sensor data, the sensor data indicative of physical movement of the WCD in three dimensional space; a memory designed to store computer program code; and a processor designed to execute the computer program code, the computer program code comprising:
code designed to enable detection of a plurality of different mobile thing motion activities (MTMAs) associated with the user that is transporting the WCD based at least in part upon the sensor data;
code designed to detect occurrence of a plurality of MTMAs;

code designed to communicate a message to the user via the user interface that communicates the identified action and requests confirmation that the action should be initiated;
code designed to initiate the action when the user provides an input via the user interface indicating the confirmation that the action should be initiated; and
code designed to refrain from initiating the action when the user fails to provide the input via the user interface indicating the confirmation that the action should be initiated.
9 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of MTMAs are the same.
10 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of MTMAs are different.
11 . The DCW of claim 8 , wherein the computer program code further comprises:
code designed to compute a value indicative of a length of time associated with a number of sessions of the same MTMA; and code designed to compare the value with a predetermined threshold; and wherein the identify action code is designed to identify the action based at least in part upon the comparison.
12 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the computer program code further comprises:
code designed to access user preference information; and code designed to communicate the message based at least in part upon the user preference information.
13 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the computer program code further comprises:
code designed to delay the communication of the message based at least in part upon the detected MTMA; and code designed to initiate the communication of the message once the detected MTMA terminates.
14 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the action involves the purchase of a good or service.
15 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the action involves causing the WCD to engage in a communication session with another WCD.
16 . The WCD of claim 8 , wherein the action involves starting or stopping an application program on the WCD.
17 . A wireless communication device (WCD) that can be transported by a user, the WCD comprising:
a user interface that enables the WCD to receive inputs from the user and to provide outputs to the user; one or more sensors associated with the WCD designed to produce sensor data, the sensor data indicative of physical movement of the WCD in three dimensional space; a memory designed to store computer program code; and a processor designed to execute the computer program code, the computer program code comprising:
code designed to enable detection of a plurality of different mobile thing motion activities (MTMAs) associated with the user that is transporting the WCD based at least in part upon the sensor data;
code designed to detect an MTMA of the plurality of MTMAs;
code designed to identify an action to initiate based at least in part upon the detected MTMA;
code designed to communicate a message to the user via the user interface that communicates the identified action and requests confirmation that the action should be initiated;
code designed to initiate the action when the user provides an input via the user interface indicating the confirmation that the action should be initiated; and
code designed to refrain from initiating the action when the user fails to provide the input via the user interface indicating the confirmation that the action should be initiated.
