Defibrillator Display
Abstract
An external defibrillator system is provided. The system includes: graphical display; one or more sensors for obtaining CO 2 data for a patient over a time interval; one or more sensors for obtaining information about a patient's heart activity over the time interval; and a controller. The controller can be configured to: determine a CO 2 waveform over the time interval from the obtained CO 2 data; determine a filtered electrocardiogram trace from the obtained information about the patient's heart activity; and display on the graphical display the CO 2 waveform and the filtered electrocardiogram trace. A method for monitoring patient activity using an external defibrillator is also provided.

30 . A method for monitoring patient activity using an external defibrillator, the method comprising:
obtaining data regarding chest compressions performed on the patient; determining values for depth and rate of a plurality of the chest compressions over a time interval; determining values for SpO 2 of the patient over at least a portion of the time interval, determining values for CO 2 of the patient over at least a portion of the time interval, displaying on a graphical display screen of the defibrillator, indications of the determined values for depth and rate and one of the SpO 2 values or the CO 2 values; and changing from displaying one of the patient SpO 2 values or the patient CO 2 values to the other of the patient SpO 2 values or the patient CO 2 values.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the data regarding chest compressions is displayed in the form of a bar graph.
32 . The method of claim 31 , wherein lengths of bars in the bar graph represent compression depths and spacing of bars in the bar graph represent compression rate.
33 . The method of claim 31 , further comprising displaying indicators for standard depth and rate with the bar graph.
34 . An external defibrillator system comprising:
a graphical display; one or more sensors for obtaining data regarding chest compressions performed on a patient; one or more sensors for obtaining data regarding patient chemical measurements; and a controller configured to:
determine values for depth and rate of a plurality of the chest compressions from data obtained by the one or more sensors over a time interval;
determine values for patient chemical measurements from data obtained by the one or more sensors over the time interval,
display on the graphical display screen, indications of the determined values for depth and rate and values for patient chemical measurements, and
change from displaying patient chemical measurements to displaying the chest compression data.
35 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the controller is configured to display the chest compression data in the form of a bar graph.
36 . The system of claim 35 , wherein lengths of bars in the bar graph represent compression depths and spacing of bars in the bar graph represent compression rate.
37 . The system of claim 35 , wherein the controller is configured to display indications for standard depth and rate with the bar graph.
38 . The method of claim 30 , wherein changing from displaying the patient SpO 2 values to the patient CO 2 values is in response to determining that chest compressions have commenced on the patient.
39 . The method of claim 30 , wherein changing from displaying the patient CO 2 values to the patient SpO 2 values is in response to determining that chest compressions have ceased.
40 . The method of claim 30 , further comprising determining at least one of an SpO 2 waveform from the obtained SpO 2 values and a CO 2 waveform from the obtained CO 2 values.
41 . The method of claim 40 , further comprising receiving information about the patient's heart activity, determining an electrocardiogram trace for the patient based on the heart activity information, and displaying one of the SpO 2 waveform and the CO 2 waveform and the electrocardiogram trace on the graphical display.
42 . The method of claim 41 , wherein displaying one of the SpO 2 waveform and the CO 2 waveform and the electrocardiogram trace comprises moving one of the SpO 2 waveform and the CO 2 waveform and the electrocardiogram trace laterally across the graphical display.
43 . The method of claim 41 , wherein displaying one of an SpO 2 waveform or a CO 2 waveform and the electrocardiogram trace comprises displaying a full length electrocardiogram waveform and a partial length of the SpO 2 or CO 2 waveform.
44 . The method of claim 30 , wherein displaying one of the SpO 2 values and the CO 2 values further comprises displaying an indication of whether the SpO 2 values or the CO 2 values are being displayed.
45 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the controller is configured to change from displaying the patient chemical measurements to displaying the chest compression data in response to determining that chest compressions have commenced on the patient.
46 . The system of claim 45 , wherein the controller is configured to determine that chest compressions have commenced based, at least in part, on the data regarding chest compressions performed on the patient.
47 . An external defibrillator system comprising:
a graphical display; one or more sensors for obtaining CO 2 data for a patient over a time interval; one or more sensors for obtaining information about a patient's heart activity over the time interval; and a controller configured to:
determine a CO 2 waveform over the time interval from the obtained CO 2 data,
determine a filtered electrocardiogram trace from the obtained information about the patient's heart activity, and
display on the graphical display the CO 2 waveform and the filtered electrocardiogram trace.

The system of claim 47 , further comprising one or more sensors for obtaining data regarding chest compressions performed on the patient, wherein the controller is configured to determine values for depth and rate of a plurality of the chest compressions from data obtained by the one or more sensors over the time interval.
49 . The system of claim 48 , wherein the controller is configured to display the determined values for depth and rate of the chest compressions on the graphical display.
50 . The system of claim 48 , wherein the controller is further configured to cause the graphical display to display an indication of whether the chest compressions are being performed properly based on the determined values for depth and rate.
51 . The system of claim 50 , wherein the indication of whether chest compressions are being performed properly comprises an indicator comprising a shape with an amount of fill in the shape differing based upon the determined rate and depth of chest compression.
52 . The system of claim 48 , wherein the controller is configured to display on the graphical display an indication of an idle time since chest compressions were last detected, based on the data from the one or more sensors for obtaining data regarding chest compressions.
53 . The system of claim 48 , further comprising one or more sensors for obtaining SpO 2 data for the patient over the time interval, wherein the controller is configured to determine an SpO 2 waveform from the obtained SpO 2 data and to selectively change from displaying one of the SpO 2 waveform and the CO 2 waveform to the other of the SpO 2 waveform and the CO 2 waveform.
54 . The system of claim 53 , wherein changing from displaying the SpO 2 waveform to the CO 2 waveform is in response to determining that chest compressions have commenced on the patient.
55 . The system of claim 53 , wherein changing from displaying the CO 2 waveform to the SpO 2 waveform is in response to determining that chest compressions have ceased.
56 . The system of claim 53 , wherein the controller is further configured to display an indication of whether the SpO 2 values or the CO 2 values are being displayed.
57 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the CO 2 waveform for the patient comprises a waveform for end-tidal CO 2 .
58 . The system of claim 47 , wherein displaying the CO 2 waveform and the filtered electrocardiogram trace comprises moving the CO 2 waveform and the filtered electrocardiogram trace laterally across the graphical display.
