Abstract

A maintenance therapy regimen is described for the treatment of acne related diseases. The novel therapy regimen follows a course of oral antibiotic therapy with a topical fixed-dose combination of a retinoid, such as adapalene, and an anti-bacterial agent, such as benzoyl peroxide.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A maintenance therapy regime/regimen kit for inhibiting or treating an acne related disease, the kit comprising:
 (a) a first package comprising a composition which comprises at least one retinoid and at least one topical antibacterial agent;   (b) a second package comprising an oral antibiotic product; and   (c) an instruction to facilitate patient compliance with the therapy regime/regimen.   
     
     
         2 . A fixed dose combination comprising at least one retinoid and at least one topical antibacterial agent formulated into a topical composition for inhibiting or treating an acne related disease and a therapeutically effective amount of an of an oral antibiotic product. 
     
     
         3 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 2 , wherein the at least one retinoid comprises adapalene. 
     
     
         4 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 2 , wherein the at least one topical antibacterial agent comprises benzoyl peroxide. 
     
     
         5 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 2 , wherein the fixed-dose combination comprises adapalene, benzoyl peroxide and a pharmaceutically acceptable topical carrier. 
     
     
         6 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable topical carrier comprises a gel. 
     
     
         7 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 6 , wherein the gel comprises an aqueous gel. 
     
     
         8 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 2 , wherein the oral antibiotic product is selected from the group consisting of lymecycline, clindamycin, doxycycline, avosulfone; macrolides, erythromycin, ampicillin, aminoglycosisdiques, kanamycin, synergistines, and pristinamycin. 
     
     
         9 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 8 , wherein the oral antibiotic product is selected from the group consisting of lymecyclinc, clindamycin, and doxycyclinc. 
     
     
         10 . The fixed-dose combination as defined by  claim 9 , wherein the oral antibiotic product comprises doxycycline.
