Abstract
A computer system monitors the execution time of each of a plurality of tasks over a plurality of time periods. The system receives a first input that selects a particular time period from the plurality of time periods, and further monitors the execution time of the plurality of tasks in the selected time period. The system receives a second input that selects a particular task from the particular time period, and monitors the execution time of the particular task in the particular time period.

1 . A method comprising:
monitoring multiple executions of a plurality of tasks executing on one or more computer systems; for ones of the plurality of tasks,
determining an amount of overtime for each execution of the task as a difference between an expected end time of the task and an actual end time of the task; and
determining efficiency information for the task based, at least in part, on the amount of overtime for each of the executions of the task;
identifying inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks; and supplying, for performance analysis of the plurality of tasks, at least one of identifiers for the inefficient tasks or the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the efficiency information for the task comprises determining a percentage of overtime executions of the task based, at least in part, on a number of overtime executions of the task divided by a total number of executions of the task.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein identifying the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises:
determining an average percentage of overtime executions for the plurality of tasks based, at least in part, on the percentage of overtime executions for each of the plurality of tasks; and identifying those of the plurality of tasks for which the percentage of overtime executions is greater than the average percentage of overtime executions to be the inefficient tasks.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the efficiency information for the task comprises determining a total amount of overtime for the task.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein identifying the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises:
determining an average amount of overtime for the plurality of tasks based, at least in part, on the total amount of overtime for each of the plurality of tasks; and identifying those of the plurality of tasks for which the total amount of overtime is greater than the average amount of overtime to be the inefficient tasks.

The method claim 1 , wherein the multiple executions of the plurality of tasks occur over a plurality of time periods, wherein determining the efficiency information for the task based, at least in part, on the amount of overtime for each of the executions of the task comprises determining a total amount of overtime for the task in each of the plurality of time periods.

The method of claim 6 , wherein identifying the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises, in response to selection of a first of the plurality of time periods, identifying those of the plurality of tasks for which the total amount of overtime within the first time period is greater than a threshold to be the inefficient tasks.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein supplying, for performance analysis of the plurality of tasks, at least one of the identifiers for the inefficient tasks or the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises displaying the plurality of tasks in a graph in accordance with the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of overtime for the task is set to zero when the expected end time is greater than the actual end time.
10 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having program code stored therein, the program code to:
monitor multiple executions of a plurality of tasks executing on one or more computer systems; for ones of the plurality of tasks,
determine an amount of overtime for each execution of the task as a difference between an expected end time of the task and an actual end time of the task; and
determine efficiency information for the task based, at least in part, on the amount of overtime for each of the executions of the task;
identify inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks; and supply, for performance analysis of the plurality of tasks, at least one of identifiers for the inefficient tasks or the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks.
11 . The computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the program code to determine the efficiency information for the task comprises program code to determine a percentage of overtime executions of the task based, at least in part, on a number of overtime executions of the task divided by a total number of executions of the task, wherein the program code to identify the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises program code to:
determine an average percentage of overtime executions for the plurality of tasks based, at least in part, on the percentage of overtime executions for each of the plurality of tasks; and determine those of the plurality of tasks for which the percentage of overtime executions is greater than the average percentage of overtime executions to be the inefficient tasks.
12 . An apparatus comprising:
a processor; and a machine-readable medium having program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:
monitor multiple executions of a plurality of tasks executing on one or more computer systems;
for ones of the plurality of tasks,
determine an amount of overtime for each execution of the task as a difference between an expected end time of the task and an actual end time of the task; and
determine efficiency information for the task based, at least in part, on the amount of overtime for each of the executions of the task;
identify inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks; and
supply, for performance analysis of the plurality of tasks, at least one of identifiers for the inefficient tasks or the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks.
13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine the efficiency information for the task comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine a percentage of overtime executions of the task based, at least in part, on a number of overtime executions of the task divided by a total number of executions of the task.

The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to identify the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:
determine an average percentage of overtime executions for the plurality of tasks based, at least in part, on the percentage of overtime executions for each of the plurality of tasks; and identify those of the plurality of tasks for which the percentage of overtime executions is greater than the average percentage of overtime executions to be the inefficient tasks.
15 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine the efficiency information for the task comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine a total amount of overtime for the task.

The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to identify the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to:
determine an average amount of overtime for the plurality of tasks based, at least in part, on the total amount of overtime for each of the plurality of tasks; and identify those of the plurality of tasks for which the total amount of overtime is greater than the average amount of overtime to be the inefficient tasks.
17 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the multiple executions of the plurality of tasks occur over a plurality of time periods, wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine the efficiency information for the task based, at least in part, on the amount of overtime for each of the executions of the task comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to determine a total amount of overtime for the task in each of the plurality of time periods.

The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to identify the inefficient tasks based, at least in part, on the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to, in response to selection of a first of the plurality of time periods, identify those of the plurality of tasks for which the total amount of overtime within the first time period is greater than a threshold to be the inefficient tasks.
19 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to supply, for performance analysis of the plurality of tasks, at least one of the identifiers for the inefficient tasks or the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks comprises program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to display the plurality of tasks in a graph in accordance with the efficiency information for each of the plurality of tasks.
