Abstract
Example methods, apparatuses, or articles of manufacture are disclosed herein that may be utilized, in whole or in part, to facilitate or support one or more operations or techniques for automatic or more dynamic handover of one or more positioning parameters from a navigation device, such as a personal navigation device (PND) co-located with a vehicle, for example, to a mobile communication device for use in or with a mobile communication device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method implemented via an in-vehicle navigation device comprising:
providing, by the in-vehicle navigation device, navigation assistance data to a final destination via periodic position fixes; and transmitting, from the in-vehicle navigation device to a mobile device, one or more signals indicative of one or more parameters to enable the mobile device to navigate movement from a sub destination to a final destination, wherein the transmitting the one or more signals is triggered based, at least in part, on a relationship of a state of a vehicle to the sub destination determined in connection with at least one of the periodic position fixes.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the periodic position fixes is implemented in connection with a geofence.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the geofence is indicative of an acceptable walking distance from the sub destination to the final destination.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the periodic position fixes is user-configurable.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the at least one of the periodic position fixes is configured via a user selection of the final destination or the sub destination received at a user interface of at least one of the following: the in-vehicle navigation device; the mobile device; or any combination thereof.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmitting the one or more signals is triggered prior to the vehicle being placed in park.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the relationship of the state of the vehicle to the sub destination is based, at least in part, on at least one of the following meeting a threshold: a set range of the in-vehicle navigation device to the final destination; a set range of the vehicle to one or more of a traffic light and a traffic sign; a reverse direction of travel of the vehicle; a low speed of travel of the vehicle; a stationary state of the vehicle; a non-operational state of an engine of the vehicle; an open position of a driver's door of the vehicle; an open position of a passenger's door of the vehicle; an application of a parking brake of the vehicle; or any combination thereof.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the threshold is represented via a numerical value defining the relationship of the state of the vehicle to the sub destination.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the relationship of the state of the vehicle to the sub destination comprises a weighted relationship of at least two parameters for the state of the vehicle and at least one parameter for the sub destination.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the two parameters for the state of the vehicle comprises: the vehicle's direction; the vehicle's speed; or the vehicle's location.
11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one parameter for the state of the sub destination comprises: a location of the sub destination; or availability of the sub destination for parking.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the navigating of the movement of the mobile device from the sub destination to the final destination is implemented via a navigation application installed on the mobile device.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more parameters comprise at least one of the following: geographic coordinates of the final destination; geographic coordinates of the sub destination; an estimate of time; ephemeris data; satellite positioning system (SPS) almanac data; a proposed route from the sub destination to the final destination; navigation details; a notification that the PND is within an acceptable walking distance to the final destination; or any combination thereof.
14 . An apparatus comprising:
a communication interface for an in-vehicle navigation device to communicate with a mobile device; and at least one processor programmed with instructions to:
provide, by the in-vehicle navigation device, navigation assistance data to a final destination via periodic position fixes; and
transmit, from the in-vehicle navigation device to a mobile device, one or more signals indicative of one or more parameters to enable the mobile device to navigate movement from a sub destination to a final destination,
wherein to the transmit the one or more signals is triggered based, at least in part, on a relationship of a state of a vehicle to the sub destination determined in connection with at least one of the periodic position fixes.
15 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the periodic position fixes is implemented in connection with a geofence.
16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the geofence is indicative of an acceptable walking distance from the sub destination to the final destination.
17 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the periodic position fixes is user-configurable.
18 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the at least one of the periodic position fixes is configured via a user selection of the final destination or the sub destination received at a user interface of at least one of the following: the in-vehicle navigation device; the mobile device; or any combination thereof.
19 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the transmission of the one or more signals is triggered prior to the vehicle being placed in park.
20 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the relationship of the state of the vehicle to the sub destination is based, at least in part, on at least one of the following meeting a threshold: a set range of the in-vehicle navigation device to the final destination; a set range of the vehicle to one or more of a traffic light and a traffic sign; a reverse direction of travel of the vehicle; a low speed of travel of the vehicle; a stationary state of the vehicle; a non-operational state of an engine of the vehicle; an open position of a driver's door of the vehicle; an open position of a passenger's door of the vehicle; an application of a parking brake of the vehicle; or any combination thereof.
21 . The apparatus of claim 20 , wherein the threshold is represented via a numerical value that defines the relationship of the state of the vehicle to the sub destination.
22 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the relationship of the state of the vehicle to the sub destination comprises a weighted relationship of at least two parameters for the state of the vehicle and at least one parameter for the sub destination.
23 . The apparatus of claim 22 , wherein at least one of the two parameters for the state of the vehicle comprises: the vehicle's direction; the vehicle's speed; or the vehicle's location.
24 . The apparatus of claim 22 , wherein the at least one parameter for the state of the sub destination comprises: a location of the sub destination; or availability of the sub destination for parking.
25 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more parameters comprise at least one of the following: geographic coordinates of the final destination; geographic coordinates of the sub destination; an estimate of time; ephemeris data; satellite positioning system (SPS) almanac data; a proposed route from the sub destination to the final destination; navigation details; a notification that the PND is within an acceptable walking distance to the final destination; or any combination thereof.
